Title: Any ideas on how to convert format in playlists?
Post by: okvaal on January 29, 2017, 09:20:44 am
I'm going to create a few playlists to transfer to my phone to play in my car. To make some of the files taking up less space, I'd like to convert some of them. What is the smartest way to do this without changing the originals? Drag them to my phone first and then change them there by using the left-hand panel? Or is there an easier way?

MC can convert them as it syncs.  Explore the options for Handheld Sync.

It appears my phone (Samsung Galaxy S7) won't show up under "Handhelds" not even when browsing. It DOES appear in the left hand panel though, under "Drives and devices", not under "Explorer" (Windows 10 64-bit).

Well, sort of, except that on my phone "Transfer FROM a computer" is no option at all. Only "Transfer TO" of some reason. And that one is checked.

BTW: It's a Galaxy S7 Edge phone, not tablet. BTW2: It DOES appear in Windows Explorer.

Not sure if this applies, but on Verizon S7 phones, you may need to change the mode from charging to File Transfer

1) Pull down the notifications from the top of the phone screen
2) Select USB charging
3) Switch to "file transfer"

There are various ways to do this, but that should work. I think you need to do it each time. It does not remember.

Well, at least SOMETHING helped. :)
Two menues appeared at the top: one was set for "Transfer media files" (TO a computer), the was set to "Charging". I switched off both the phone and MC and started them again, and this time my phone appeared under "Drives and devices".
I don't mind if i have to do it every time. I won't be doing this that often.
Thanks a lot for your help, Jim! :)

(And yes, it also appears as a handheld device!)
