Title: Music streaming service to the Id
Post by: wanna on January 31, 2017, 03:40:02 pm
Can I play a music streaming service such as Tidal, Spotify etc from the Id?  I know Tidal isn't integrated but can I do something like open a web browser using the ID and stream it that way?  How?

Thanks

Right now the linux version of MC doesn't

a. have browser functionality or
b. have the ability to route audio through it (a la Windows WDM functionality).

The best way I can think of doing it is to set up a shoutcast server and play the URL through MC on the ID, but it's a lot of effort.

Thanks Justin.  Do you know if there is a performance reason that Linux was chosen?  Couldn't I just put Windows 10 on a NUC with a faster processor and run MC for Win 10 and anything else I wanted to?

I don't think there was a performance issue. You could absolutely roll your own NUC.

As an aside, I've managed to set up an icecast (shoutcast) server on my linux box to stream web services, through MC to other zones - you can find a guide at http://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,109253.0.html

It actually didn't take half the effort I thought it would.

I think the Id is running Fluxbox desktop, so as long as you can install a web browser and Spotify and access the terminal, there's no reason why you can't stream Spotify, Tidal etc from the Id :)

Much appreciated Justin.  The icecast solution is over my head.  Think I'll do a Win10 NUC for more flexibility.  My main concern there is that it may come with more noise/interference than the leaner id Linux box...and of course twice the price.

Hey wanna, FWIW I just got a new ssd for my ID classic, and put MC with Win7 on it.
Needed live input, like you.

The 2820 celeron is pleasantly surprising by live-streaming with 8 channels of convolution.
6 x 65,536 taps; 2 x 256 taps; 48kHz
DspStudio performance says 3.5-4 X real time; task manager says CPU about 25-30% with peaks into low/mid 40's

It's working great
