If I tag an Album with JRiver on a PC and there is a : in the album tag name, JRiver will name the : as as _ in the filename.
All is good but if you import on another PC JRiver will not recognise or associate the cover art with the files properly

is there any reason you don't want to imbed cover art into the file?

There's a few:
1. Allows me to get larger and better quality Cover art while saving space on the PC (Can make quite a difference when you have 30K + audio files...)
2. I also save space on hand held syncs (I know I can delete them while syncing but it's an extra step taking more time for the sync)
3. Don't lose any functionalities with my other (secondary of course :) ) player (Foobar)
So let me throw the question back to you why would I? :)

You could always rename these problematic image files to Folder.jpg . MC should pick those up.

Good suggestion blgentry
I was just saying it's the easiest way to make sure art moves around with the files. the special character problem is windows, not MC so I'm unsure what a workaround would look like other than renaming

I moved away from folder.jpg as it was problematic for me. I have some albums classified by genres, so I have the files in the same folders.
And the same filename for a different file is not very handy and can be confusing.
I like how MC does it and it's working great for me. I'm only asking for MC to be smart enough to follow through on its logic and recognize that a _ it created in windows explorer IS a semicolumn in the Metadata Tag when imported back on another PC.

I'm trying to reproduce a problem, but not having any luck.
I rename my trusty Abba to: Ab:ba.
I then set the cover art. It saves as Ab_ba in the filename.
Then I erase the file and reimport and it pulls the cover art no problem.
Any tips? Thanks.

I just tried again to reproduce on my work laptop and guess what? Cover Art was found on import...
The auto-import config on the laptop is as per the snapshot. (I'll post the one on the other PC that didn't work).
There's actually 2 files I think the one with ; was generated by dBpoweramp. There's also those same 2 files for the other culprit PC.

Hi Matt,
Please find a snapshot from the culprit PC. The only difference in the import setup is both Get Movie & TV Info and the Ignore files previously removed are checked.

Actually one more thing I just realized. The laptop (working fine) has an older version...22.0.52
-
And another one...Laptop is running W7 the other desktop PC is on W10 Anniversary Edition..

Shouldn't that be Ab;ba as per the subject; semi-colons, not colons...

Yes this is correct thanks! And as per my note this doesn't seem to be an issue with a laptop on window 7 and version 21.0.52
thx
