Title: Active DP->HDMI 2.0 adapter, AMD R9, 3D madVR
Post by: DougHamm on February 13, 2017, 11:34:25 am
Hey all,

I bought a Vantec active adapter to push 4K60Hz from my AMD R9 280x to a 4k TV. Everything works great but frame-packed 3D feeds from BR image or MKV don't display. They either knock the sync out entirely or display in 2D without engaging full screen exclusive mode, and without bitstreaming audio (bizarre).

To test I used PowerDVD which doesn't use madVR, and got similar wonky behaviour and basically failure.

HOWEVER: If I bypass the adapter and go straight to HDMI 1.4 output on card, all is good. Same cable, no reboot, etc.

Anyone use an active adapter and 3D works successfully?  If so what's your hardware config?

Cheers,
Doug

interesting.   there are several posts over in the kodi hardware forum that report similar issue on intel hardware (NUC) with HDMi 2.0 ports using the kodi mvc fork.  hdmi 1.4 works fine

there is one NUC model based on kabylake that has both a 1.4 and a 2.0 port.  one works with framepacked video and the other does not

Unfortunately I lost my will to solve it and have gone back to playing 3D discs in my PS4.  :-\

Thanks for letting me know it's probably not just me. Maybe some day with a new RX480 card or whatnot, I'll get it working again.

Take care,
Doug
