I have high bitrate (ie 5604) FLAC files, but they do not seem have to play back with sound at all. These files are fine when I use VOX.

Do other files play ok in MC for Mac? What happens when you try to play back one of these problem files? Is there an error message?
Brian.

Are those DSD files? If so, you need to set MC up to play them.
Tools > Options > Audio > Settings > Bitstreaming > (select DSD )

There is no error message when I played these "no sound" files. I also tried the suggestions to set the bitstream to DSD, and still no sound.
It seems that all files with bitrate > 4000 will not generate any sound in MC. These files are OK with VOX.

I only have one FLAC with a bitrate > 4000 . I just played it with no problem. It is a 24bit, 192 kHz FLAC.
What is the sampling frequency and bit depth of the file(s) in question? I have a suspicion that your sound playback device might not be able to handle certain sampling frequencies. Or perhaps this is a really funky file with a non-standard sampling frequency or bit depth.
I sort of recall someone with 32 bit WAV files a while back that would not play.
