Title: Crashing constantly
Post by: Jericho on February 17, 2017, 08:11:17 pm
Switched to brand new MacBook Pro, OSX 10.12.3

MC 21.0.80  as well as  MC 22.0.73  crash before any sound is generated.

Help urgently requested.

I keep getting emails like this one:

You have recently restored a licence for Media Center 22 Mac. There are 10
restores available in each 12 month period.  There are 4 restores remaining at
this time.

Turn off auto-import. JRiver really needs to fix the Mac version so it handles file import errors without crashing.

The emails are generated when you request a new license.  This happens any time you cut and paste your license code into MC.  Or when you go to the licensing web page and request one.  If you're not doing those things, I'm not sure what's going on.

I agree that Importing bad files is the most common cause of MC crashing.  Usually we tell you to turn on Logging, make it crash, then post the log file here.

https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Logging

If you can get to the user interface of MC before it crashes, that would be my advice.

Good luck.

Brian.

Hi. Thank you for responding. How do I turn off auto-importing? I can't keep MC open long enough to find out how.

Greetings

I managed to click the Report button. Zip file of the log is attached. Thank you for support!

It's crashing on this file:
/Users/bmd/Music/GarageBand/02. Rock 1.band/Media/Audio Files/02. Rock New FC 19#4.caf

Could you send a copy of it to me?  I'm matt at jriver dot com.

And to fix the crash, just move that file somewhere out of auto-imports watch.  Or just disable auto-import.

Thanks.

Hi Matt. Here is the file. You have to unzip it.

I've moved the offending file into a folder on the desktop. I can't imagine auto-import would find it. MC still crashing. Attached the latest report. I don't know how to turn auto-import off.

I've managed to keep the program stay open long enough to unclick things in the Import pane. Fixed.

Nice, while it lasted. :)

Now it's crashing as soon as I click an album.

Also, the volume control on the Touch Bar is greyed out. I tried MC volume control. That's when the trouble started. Crash report attached.

I can't keep the program running long enough for me to try out things. I think I have to give up for today. Running out of time. I have a 12 hour flight tomorrow. Take care.

It's tanking looking at this file:
/Users/bmd/Music/GarageBand/02. Rock 1.band/Media/Audio Files/02. Rock New FC 19#5.caf

Would you be willing to send a copy of it to matt at jriver dot com?

Thanks!

I'd recommend moving the Garage Band folder somewhere else for now.  Seems like MC doesn't like some (all?) .CAF files.

Or make a more specific auto import rule that does not look at the entire Music directory, but only at those directories that you want to include.

I had to look up what .CAF files were (Core Audio Format). Does MC even support these, Matt? If not, that's why it's probably crashing - and here's the spec (https://developer.apple.com/library/content/documentation/MusicAudio/Reference/CAFSpec/CAF_intro/CAF_intro.html) if that's helpful Matt.

EDIT: Nevermind, I see it in MC's file types, so I guess it's supported. :P
