Hi all, new user looking at whether JR will work for me.
I have an extensive music collection in various formats WAV, FLAC, ALAC plus various hi-res files on my PC which is located upstairs. I currently have these files added to iTunes and stream to an APPLE TV box using AIRPLAY that is connected to a NAD 3020 located downstairs. I then control the files on iPhone/iPad using the app REMOTE. This works perfectly however iTunes will only play as 16/44.
So my question is how can I take iTunes out of this setup replacing it with JRiver and still play on the NAD? Can it be done with my current setup? Do I need additional hardware?
Before it's mentioned I cannot move the PC downstairs. I have a decent setup and want to maximize audio quality and get to use my hi-res audio files properly.
Any help/information will be much appreciated and will help make my mind up on a purchase of JRiver.
Regards Gary :)

Welcome to the forum.
The best way would be to put a small computer next to the playback device. The JRiver Id would work. An old laptop running MC might also work.

The next best way, would be to use DLNA / UPnP if the device supports it.
This topic on our wiki should get you started.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.
So if I was to go for the Raspberry Pi version I could connect it to the NAD via USB which is the preferred higher quality port. I wouldn't need any other hardware like a soundcard? The media centre would simply play on the PC upstairs the Pi would receive it, the amp play it?

The NAD 3020 is an amplifier:

So I believe you may need a DAC between the Id Pi and the NAD.
The Raspberry Pi can output over USB to a DAC. Any inexpensive USB DAC should work.

The NAD has a built in DAC

So no need for a USB DAC.
