My JRiver 22 is on a powerful win 10 pc. I have a hard drive with 1.6 tb of music, from a mac and itunes with massive CD library. Import goes fine till about 14,000 files, then it crashes. I unchecked images and videos and all other import items except audio. Who can I send the log to, and or talk to, and or get to remote in to my system to fix it ?

Try going into Auto Import settings and turning off thumbnailing and see if that makes a difference.
Report back please.

Enable logging:

Once you've made it crash and collected the .ZIP file of the crash, attach that log here. You probably have one or more bad files that are making MC choke and die on import.
Brian.

Don't send a log until you make sure you're using the latest build. It's 22.0.81.

Would you email me a copy of this file:
K:\iTunes from john\Music\Compilations\Shake Sauvage_ French Soundtracks 1968-1973\02 Nues Dans L'eau.aif
I'm matt at jriver.
Thanks a lot.

You should probably also move that file to another directory that is NOT in JRiver's import or auto import directories. Once you do that, try running the import again and see if it gets through it.

I wonder if it isn't something simple like the apostrophe in the file name..

Try this...it kills J River, but runs fine on Windows media player.

I downloaded your .aif file and it plays fine on my JRiver MC program (ver 81).

Yes, I took that file and the one you emailed and it imports and plays no problem on my home machine.
I'll test at work as well.
-
Matt,
Some of the files play fine on JRiver, and some crash it. All this was on a huge mac and Itunes playlist and storage hard drive....most of the music as CD sourced aif files..possibly as many as 10,000 CD's.
All read from Apple. I run a PC, so I bought MacDrive 10 Standard to read the drive .
-
Aha!
Transfer a few to your internal drive and try playing them.
-
So I tried pasting the track just mentioned on to my internal c drive, on the desktop....and JRiver crashes as soon as it tries to load the file...then I renamed the file, in case the french apostrophe was the issue...and the crash still happens....So I dont see this as Mac drive based, or mac naming convention based.
I can convert the aif file with Adobe Premiere or Adobe Audition, both of which I have....but aif files should run just fine in JRiver....Still, at a loss for what to try, this is the next thing I will try. If it does work, it could indicate "something" :-)
-
Just used Adobe Media Encoder to convert the mac based aif 16 bit 44hz adio file to a 16/44 uncompressed wave file.
On loading it to JRiver, it played perfectly.
So Aif issue...or, maybe mac structured aif? Can there be a difference from the way a mac creates and write an aif file, to the way a PC creates and writes an aif file?
And...why in the world can Windows Media Player run the original aif file on the mac drive, or the pc drive, with no problems?
-
Your track might have a problem in its meta data. Converting to another format would keep the audio data but might restructure the meta data. Try making a copy of the original aiff track and use a tagger like mp3tag (or even iTunes) to remove the album art, and / or the tag values, and then see if MC can play that version..
-
I am in the process of having the mp3 tag program just recommended, update all the tracks on this hard drive. Hopefully this will work :-) Are there any opinion as to why the Windows Media Player was able to run the tracks that J River would crash with? Is there some meta data that works on WMP but not on JRiver? If so, maybe the known issue here could be transcribed / automated?
-
I do know that MC and/or JRemote do have problems with embedded album art where the image size is very large, and I have found that replacing the art images with something around 600x600 pixels does remove the problem.

If you find one that crashes it I'd like to see it.
-
Hi bob, I posted it ages ago (years). But nobody was interested at that time. But
I will see if I can find it again.

I don't see the image file on the track in question so far in this thread....and on opening Windows Media player to run it, I don't see any cover art....Of course, JRiver won't play it long enough to show any meta data.....How do you look for meta data like a large "cover image" file?
Also...I ran the mp3 tag program on all music tracks, with it set to add meta data wherever missing---it did nothing to change the instant crashing....I tried opening just the known bad track, and it crashed right away.
There was no setting to "FIX" bad meta data settings :-)
-
So I still have no solution, and not even anything I can try.

I was also able to play that file no problem in MC22.0.85, which should be the same as MC22.0.81 for playback.
I noticed though that the tag window didn't show any Cover Art in the file, or reference to an external Cover Art file. So if you have any Cover Art for it, you must have done something to remove the Cover Art before posting. Or maybe the Cover Art issue isn't a concern in this case.
The file size of the file you posted was 19,879,065 bytes. Is that the same size as the file you have that crashes MC?
