Title: Settings for DSD-capable DAC
Post by: rsg on March 19, 2017, 06:44:05 pm
This may be a dumb question, but, having just bought a DSD-capable DAC, should I change any of the settings in JRiver if I am only playing PCM files? Thinking of things like 'sample rate' and 'output encoding.'

Ÿou will have to rely on your own ears.

I personally am biased toward playback at the same sampling/bit depth as natively recorded.  So, I would not try to play PCM recordings in DSD.  But, I must confess that I do the reverse - DSD to hi rez PCM conversion - all the time in order to gain the advantages of DSP for speaker distance, bass management and Room EQ in my 7.1 system, normally with Mch recordings.  My DAC does support DSD, but I seldom use that mode.
