Title: MC9 incompatible with standard APE tags?
Post by: sapnho on July 12, 2003, 03:11:57 am
I upgraded to MC9 yesterday and noticed that the APE tagging has changed. In MJ8 it was compatible with say the Winamp 2 plug-in and displayed the artist and the name in the winamp playlist.

With MC9, if you play an APE file and look at the file info dialogue in winamp, there is no information in there. This is very annoying because I use both Winamp and MJ/MC.

Is there a way to have this compatibility back?

MC uses APE v2.0 tags for Monkey's Audio and the Winamp 2.x plugin seems to only reads APE v1.0 tags. Not sure if there is an updated Winamp 2.x plugin anywhere.

Did MJ8 really use APE 1.0 tags?

Yeah. APE2 support was only added to MC sometime around the beginning of the year, IIRC.

Also, I believe that even Monkey's Audio 3.97 only writes APE1 tags.
