Sailing on the North Sea, with time off for good behavior.
It's the Driehoek Nordsee (North Sea Triangle) that I think I survived. Two weeks, about 1400 statute miles of sailing. There is a day missing because I was seasick.

On home soil yet?

Happily, I am, slapping mosquitoes again.

You too, huh? I think they should have an open season on them. Flamethrowers encouraged...just watch out for the roses.

Woah,

I'll look at them on Monday when I'm back on broadband in the office. Should be nice.

If you have MC set to play WAV files, this link should work:

It's a recording I made (with a PDA) of two gypsy musicians from Romania. They were playing in front of small cafes where Boulevard St. Michel meets the Seine.
They are the first two guys pictured here:

I went to the same place on three days to record them. The piece they play in the beginning is something they said came from a film called "Shatra" or "Chartre" or something like that. They spoke almost no French or English, but we did have a couple of beers together outside the grocery store on the third day. The accordianist could open a beer bottle with another one, and each time he did, he smiled and said, "specialist".

You sir, have entirely too much fun! :D
(Sailing I mean, not the swatting mosquito bit).

You may try to do it more often when traveling.
I want to convert it in any format and put pictures of the musicians as SlideShow.
Look like you had great time-
Maintenant ,de retour au travail !

Zev,
I agree. It was fun to do. In Lerwick, we met a Dutch couple, Aud and Hella, who had sailed the same 500 miles from Amsterdam that we did, but they were going on another 1200 miles to Spitzbergen, north of Norway.
They are both excellent sailors, having sailed around the world and even to Antarctica. Aud loves to talk, and I recorded part of the conversation:

The pictures are on this page:
http://www.jriver.com/~jriver/2003/northsea/lerwick/
The ones numbered from 534 to 564 are from the day of the conversation and the following day. There is one stray picture in the middle -- 549 is our boat with all our stuff hung out to dry.
Here's a picture of their boat, the Helena Cristina.
