Title: Clients stopped showing thumbnails
Post by: CHaun on April 28, 2017, 08:52:42 pm
I don't know exactly when this happened, but I recently added 2 new clients to my network and they don't show any thumbnails, just the default grey box. I looked at a few of my existing clients and they have most of their thumbnails, but aren't building thumbnails on things that were recently added to the server. The server is displaying it's own thumbnails just fine.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I tried rebuilding thumbnails on the new client (as shown in attachment) with no change in display.

Try this at each client:
-close MC on the client.
-go to C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\J River\Media Center 22\Thumbnails and delete everything in that folder.
-start MC on the client.
-it should rebuild the thumbnails.

You might try checking the system clocks on all your PCs..

Thanks for the replies. Clearing the folder didn't seem to help and the clocks are set properly.

After you cleared that folder and ran MC, go back into that folder. Is there a newly created folder in there?

There were newly created folders.

However, when I looked at the folders on the server there were 3 additional thumbnail files with a (1) behind the filename. The filedates on these errant files seemed to coincide with the approximate date that the clients stopped getting thumbnails. I stopped the media server, deleted the server's thumbnail folder and restarted. The thumbnails rebuilt quickly on the server and the clients began getting their thumbnails again. Just as a note to anyone in the future that comes across this problem, those extra bad thumbnail files on the server apparently persist through reboots.

As always, thank you SO much for your help. I would have never been able to solve this on my own. You are the best!

Excellent!

I keep a shortcut to that folder on the desktop of each client. Makes it easier to clean things up when some tv show cover art doesn't match the server.
