I use webgrab ++ to get the TV guide then import the file, this has been working scheduled at 02.00 every morning for years. a recent update I think has stopped this working, when I run through manually it loads fine. its like the overnight run isn't triggering? have tried deleting and adding again without luck.
Any thoughts? I am running the latest version.

Which part of the world are you based?
I'm not familiar with Webgrab Plus but if you let us know where you're located, then a proven alternative could work for you.

If I understand you correctly, you use webgrab++ to download guide data and then use XMLTV option to import the xmltv file into MC.
Since it worked previously, it is puzzling why it stopped working. Have you checked that all appropriate checkboxes are checked on Schedule Guide Reloading window? Do you have any TV recordings scheduled for the time when EPG is to update?

Looks like i had the same problem.
I had no recording since sunday. So i looked and saw no program data.
Ran load program data manually and it worked.
I run a .bat to get zap2xml.

Do you see any background EPG loading entries in "TV Logs"?

MC just uses a dynamically created Windows Scheduled Task in the background doesn't it Yaobing?
Sometimes those tasks can get stuck. I've never found a good reason for that happening.
However, a reboot of the PC usually fixes it. Next time you see the problem in MC, just try rebooting the PC. If your HTPC is like mine, it doesn't get rebooted very often.

If we ask for an EPG update, what happens if it doesn't complete? Should we add a timeout?

EPG tags on TV recording poll timer. We do not create a Windows task.

We do have a time-out, especially for Internet EPG. In fact it is part of user configuration for XMLTV option.

Last epg update in the tv log is 04/30/2017
No log if it being done manually. It does take a long time. But i can't edit my current timeout.
I'll have to make a new one to test.

ok so if i hit add and use the same info. It does not add it may edits it. But i can't see the timeout setting in the "load epg data windows".
So it's hard to know if it did anything.

It definitely is not due to time-out.
I am now seeing it on my computer. My EPG has not updated since last morning, and I set it to update every 8 hours. So it missed 4 pm and 12 am updates and probably will miss the next 8 am update.
Go to "Show status" in TV view. What is the state of each tuner? Do you see any that says "Undefined"? If so, are those tuners "OpenCable" (CableCARD) tuners?

Not sure what happened here, maybe an update?
I ended up deleting the EPG profile and adding a new one exactly the same and its now working on the schedule.

The TV tuner does say "Undefined" and yes it is a cablecard. (HDHomeRun prime)
