Title: HEVC 4K to 1080p transcode on Kaby Lake
Post by: doubrown on June 18, 2017, 02:33:42 pm
I'm running MC22 on an i7 Kaby Lake NUC. When I play an HEVC encoded 4K MKV file to a 1080p TV, MC skips and stutters and the CPU maxes out. Kaby Lake supports hardware HEVC encoding and decoding. I have hw transcode enabled on MC22. Playback doesn't seem to be using the GPU. Is this a shortcoming in MC or MadVR or am I doing something wrong?

Try setting MC's video to Red October Standard.

That worked. CPU usage is now under 30%. Is hw transcode only supported under Red October Standard?

No.  You can check in MC's video settings how it is set.

Try Red October HQ without making any modifications to madVR.
