Title: Something broken with TV
Post by: robt on June 16, 2017, 05:34:11 pm
Ok. I have installed v23 on two machines and I have no tv video on either. Settings were transferred and the library seems fine too but my HDHomerun is just giving a blank screen.

When first run, there was a message "Downloading required components" but still black screen on both. v22 is working and the settings seem the same for both versions.

Just me or anyone else? Audio is working...

Ps other video such as streamed HD from a blu ray is fine, its just tv playback

I can't even do a channel scan with 23.0.7, something TV-y seems broke indeed.

I have no problem scanning for channels.  Maybe it is DVB-specific?  What are the symptoms?

I always get a tuner is not available message. Spun up MC22 and it works fine.

Strange.  Device discovery code has not changed at all.  Are you using an RTSP device (such as Sat>IP)?  If so, check Media Network setting.

Nope, USB2 DVB-C Tuner.

Do you see the devices under "Show status", or TV Options > Manage Devices?

They showed up there fine, only if I tried to scan I got the error. After having played TV for a bit in MC22 I now tried in MC23 again and it now works there as well. No clue what happened to it.
On that note, I also get an image just fine.

+1 Same problem.

If it helps, if I play around and change settings or change channels or detach the display then I have been able to get a picture. However, whenever I start TV in v23 I always get a blank screen. Thats with SD or HD.

I was not able to play live TV this morning.  Then I started installing earlier versions to try to pin point the issue, but 23.0.5, 23.0.6 both worked fine.  So I installed 23.0.7 again, guess what, it started working again.

Those of you still having problem playing a TV channel can try reinstalling MC and see if that solves the problem.

Ok, tried that and still have issues on both my machines, both running Win 10 64 bit.

Consistently, if I start tv in HD mode then no picture. If I close the display and select the same but SD channel, picture starts and works fine and if I then reselect the HD channel, it will too works properly. Interestingly I always get the audio channel so I know the signal is being received. Hardware is an HDHomerun Connect.

So, it seems something is not initialising properly. No such problem with v 22.0.108 which is rock solid.

I am totally puzzled.  I cannot identify any changes that could cause playback problem of HD TV Channels.

I've tried again this morning and confirmed the issue. SD works on both machines, HD doesnt until SD is used.
The problem is identical on each machine, although they are both quite different. One is a NUC6 i3 and the other is a home built Intel based i3 but with an ATI video card.

The common factor might be the HDHomerun, I dont have any other hardware tv cards to try...

Quote from the change log for v23

23.0.5 (6/15/2007)

1. Changed: Red October updated to LAV Filters 0.70 (Performance and hardware decoding improvements).

Could this be causing the issue??

It could be.   But the way the problem presents itself is still strange.  If it were a decoder issue, I would expect having problem all the time, not just before an SD channel has been played.

Do HD channels in your area involve H265 video?

Not sure how much it will help, please do provide a log file.

I think I'm right in saying its H.264 for HD tv (I'm watching DVB-T2 in the UK)

I have a log file attached.

If you're on a AMD GPU you could check if Hardware Accelerated Decoding in Options -> Video is enabled, and if so try turning that off. We enabled more acceleration on AMD GPUs for MC23, but depending on driver versions and whatnot, that might have other effects.

Good call. Turning off Hardware Accelerate Decoding on both machines, one with AMD graphics and one with Intel graphics seems to have resolved the issue.

Both now start HD tv correctly.

Pleased we can move forward now....

Thanks... All AMD system... was having the black screen (with sound) problem for many versions back. I recall turning on Hardware Accelerated Decoding awhile back & that was about the time the black screen started for me.

We found one issue with hardware acceleration and fixed it for an upcoming build, so if you're having performance issues you might try turning it back on once the build arrives.
