Title: Rodriguez / Sugarman
Post by: JimH on June 21, 2017, 06:26:47 pm
Anyone else a fan of Rodriguez (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rodriguez_(singer-songwriter))?

Sugarman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Searching_for_Sugar_Man), the documentary about him, is amazing.

He lives in Detroit, about 74 now, wrote and sang a lot of great music, and worked as a construction laborer most of his life.

Thanks for the reminder.

I've now watched the film. All rather humbling.

Also, very much a stark contrast with another doco that I watched recently from the BBC:
Imagine... S21E07 Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin'

Hendrix was also an introvert (although you wouldn't think so from his stage craft) but tracked a very different path. The intriguing similarity was that they both first "made it" outside the US. How nuts is that?
