Title: Wi-Fi or Ethernet for Internet service with JRiver/Server

I am considering running an Ethernet cable from my router/modem to the computer across the room with JRiver as music server, plus internet.

I am figuring that a hard wire connection would be more robust than wi-fi, and it's not too difficult for me to run a cable over a couple of doors and down to my player box.

Is this a good idea and advantages over just wi-fi to computer from modem?

Welcome to the forum.

There are no advantages unless the Wi-Fi connection is weak or unreliable.  Those days are mostly gone.  Modern Wi-Fi works very well in most cases.
