I have a few audio Library Views that use random sorting. When linked files are present it's not uncommon to see multiple covers of the same album, the first of which is always complete, while its siblings are always partial. I get this on 2 different PCs. See attached screenshot.
-
Is there a solution for the multiple images? Is it only me? It's pretty easy to test for. I mean, I like Simone Dinnerstein, but this is ridiculous.
-
looks like a tagging issue to me
-
Highlight a few of those album covers that are the same. Open the tagging window. Do they have the same [Artist] field, or does it say "Varies" ?
Brian.

Thanks for responding and for your suggestions. A review of tagging shows that for all such multiple images the Artist, Album Artist, Album, Genre and Date are the same. When a particular duplicate image corresponds to only one track in file view, the tag Name lists that track, when another duplicate image corresponds to multiple tracks in file view, the tag Name = [Varies]. Remember, this anomaly only occurs with random sorting (and linked tracks). It doesn't happens with standard Panes, Album, Artist or Recently Imported views.

What does this Random view use for categories ? Maybe take a screen shot of your view definition dialog boxes.
Brian.

Is this what you mean?
-
That's really weird.
If you go to your normal Albums view and use the Sort By menu at the top to sort by Random do you see the same thing?
Really seems like an Album Artist issue to me. When I asked you to look at the Tagging Window earlier, did you highlight *multiple* album covers at the same time? That's what I was asking for. Highlight several album covers that show the same cover, but appear separately.
Brian.

When I go to the normal Albums view, click on "Edit" and change Sorting from Name to Random, the issue immediately appears.
Referring to my screen shot, you can see that I've highlighted each Elgar image with the tagging window open. Only the Name "varies".
-
when i sort (any) view by random, this doesn't happen
there must be something in the tags. did you check [album artist (auto)] i think the album view sorts by that
weird thing!
-
Random sorting alone won't cause this, only when there are also linked files, as in the screen shot, and even then it's not guaranteed to happen. It shows up... "randomly".
-
Confirmed! I see the same thing. My albums with linked tracks get broken into multiple albums: One album per linked track. It gets weirder: The rest of the album DISAPPEARS from the view!
Try it for yourself. Make a linked track. Sort your albums view by Random. Find that album by searching for album or artist name. Look around and wonder where the rest of the tracks went. Change the sorting to something else. Do the same search. All the tracks are back!
Brian.

Indeed, linking is the key
Pretty funny one
-
Since this was confirmed by another I've been hoping it would be addressed, but nothing so far. Is it unworthy?
-
I'm not able to reproduce this, so would appreciate some tips.
I link a couple tracks in an album, then refresh the view and the album is still together.
So it seems like it's working properly for me.
Thanks.

Well that was complicated! It only fell apart when you picked random sorting.
I've got a hopeful fix in the next build. Thanks for all the details.

Fixed with 23.0.80. Thanks!
