Title: After MC 23 64bit installation, .tivo files will not play
Post by: cyrusmd on September 19, 2017, 09:56:03 pm
I installed MC 23.0.60 64bit version and after installation, MC 23 will not play my .tivo files. All other files play fine. The .tivo files play OK in Windows Media Player. After uninstalling the 64bit version and reinstalling the 32bit version, everything plays fine.

Also when installing the 64bit version, I see two versions of Media Center in Program and Features in the control panel. I am using Win 10 PRO 64bit.

Any issues like this observed or experienced by my fellow users. Help will be appreciated.

Thank you

Cyrus

Hi, I am seeing the same issue with the 64-bit MC23 not playing tivo files.

None of my .tivo files (and I have a large number of them) will not play in MC23 64-bit but did play perfectly fine in MC23 32-bit; and all previous 32-bit versions.

The MAIN reason I initially came to JRiver MC was for the very fact that tivo files played by default.

Is there is a solution for this? (other than re-installing MC23 32-bit)?

TIA, kyfho.

Is there an error message, or does MC freeze/hang, or? Might be helpful if someone would provide a sample .tivo file (upload to a file sharing or google docs etc)....

Tivo playback requires a special Tivo DirectShow filter to decrypt the files, which MC will use if its installed on the system (we don't provide it, its provided by the TiVo software, I reckon) - I don't know if they provide a 64-bit variant, but if its not present, it unfortunately cannot work. But you can continue to use the 32-bit version, its not going away.

Hi, thank you for the reply and information.

After my post, I did some 'digging' into the TiVo system files/etc. and I believe it is exactly as you say about the 64-bit variant.

No worries, though. I just re-installed MC23 (32-bit) along side MC32 (64-bit) and created my own custom-made icon for the MC23 (64-bit) to differentiate the two on my Object Dock.

My wife and I will use the 32-bit for watching .tivo files and the 64-bit for everything else . . . best of both worlds!

Cheers, kyfho
