Title: Do capture cards "just work" in MC?
Post by: mattkhan on October 04, 2017, 05:25:56 am
I put "just work" in quotes as by "just work" I mean "MC can access them and process the av feed" as opposed to "they play flawlessly".

specifically I'm referring to @Yaobing's comment in the sticky thread https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,67300.0.html

No additional configuration is needed for video capture devices in Media Center 20 or higher.

the sort of device I'm referring to is a capture device like http://www.magewell.com/usb-capture-hdmi-plus which says it is compatible with "Any other DirectShow, V4L2, QuickTime,AV Foundation based encoding or streaming software" and is also listed as having UVC support.

Basically, any device that is a WDM device should work.  However, there are devices that do not provide hardware compression and do not provide software encoder filters.  These may not work well.
