Hello,
I'm trying to play 4k on a skull canyon nuc but I get a black screen and mkv does not play.
Monitor is 2560p.
I followed madvr settings for low performance and put all NAS folders on Windows defender exclusion.
Need some help troubleshooting steps.
Thanks much.

Does it work if you set MC video to Red October Standard?
-
Yes
-
Then the problem is probably related to madVR.
Does ROHQ work if you make no changes to madVR?
-
I changed JRiver from 32 bit to 64 bit. Video runs but stutters and frames still drop. madvr settings are defualt.
Thanks.

Use GPU-Z to monitor GPU utilization and CTRL-J during video playback to monitor response times etc.
-
Thanks.
GPU Load never went over 48%.
Actually only other issue is syncing with subtitles.

Try running the benchmark (Help menu > Benchmark...) and post the results here.
I suspect the NUC simply might not be powerful enough for 4K playback via ROHQ/madVR.

It's good, not great.
-
Press CTRL-J during video playback and check:
- vsync< rendering time (under average stats)
- are there dropped frames?
Have you enabled Video->Options->Display Settings automatic change mode: On?
-
It's good, not great.
It's good enough for madVR in my experience. However, with modest settings.

madVR with 4K? Default settings?
-
Sorry! Not 4K but FullHD, I did not see this requirement. I have no idea what number is needed for 4K as I do not have a 4K display.
-
vsync 16.68 ms, frame 41.71 ms
dropped frames 4535
