My Media Center updated today - I'm assuming to this version. After importing audio files it paused for some reason. I hit the Start button - it completed the import. I exited Media Center. I restarted Media Center and received a message that this shortcut has been changed or moved ... After investigating, Media Center 23.exe was gone - disappeared, not anywhere to be found on my computer. I have been using Media Center 23 for about a month and never encountered anything like this. I went back to my original download from time of purchase and reinstalled. Media Center now starts up again. Any insights on this?
I also noticed that I did not have a 64 bit version and have since downloaded this version. Everything still working well at this point.

Antivirus for missing .exe? Has this been experienced before in your experience (I searched for disappearing .exe before posting)? I can speak to my IT guy next week on this, who sets up antivirus on my computer. FYI: I have not had any hitches on this machine (MS Surface Book, 9 months new) because of anitivirus before.

That's how antivirus can work.

Overzealous antivirus applications relying on heuristics (which are prone to false positive detections like this) like to quarantine executable files, so what Jim says is VERY possible and is very likely too.
What antivirus are you using? Media Center and its folders and executables will probably need to be added to the antivirus' exclusions.

Thanks. Micro Trend. I will look into it. There is likely a log that will tell me if its guilty.

I'd look into Trend Micro's quarantine list and see if MC's files are there.
