Title: Black screen when entering MadVR Exclusive Mode after W10 upgrade [Solved]
Post by: PPMPPM on December 12, 2017, 02:44:12 pm
Hello,

After last Windows 10 64-bit upgrade, few days ago, MC 21 and 23 (just downloaded for test - I installed 64bit) stop playing movies with MadVR exclusive mode - when switching from windowed mode to exclusive screen goes black.

I don't know it's a W10 upgrade problem but i didn't change in my W10 settings. With MPC-HC everything works great. I tried everything. Every possible video decoders with MadVR don't work. In Windowed mode MadVR works great.

Another problem - after playing movie, when I exit Theater View there are no visible menus and options on the left side. See attachment. Problem exist on 21 and 23 version.

It's the first time I have a problem with MC that I can't solve.

My computer is i5-3450 with nVidia GeForce 970.

I have this problem too, but I'd rather not downgrade Windows. I've installed the latest Nvidia drivers... no go. Red October Standard is fine. Do the JRiver team have any solutions or do I need to go over to the MadVR support forums?

Did you get the drivers from Nvidia?  Try a search to see if there are known problems with the latest drivers.

Are you using ROHQ without changes?

Last night I rolled back W10 update, and everything works great again. But before that I checked everything - installed latest nVidia drivers, latest MadVR, latest LAV, checked every possible MadVR options - every time MC entered Exclusive mode I've got black screen. Others Video Renderers works (MadVR Windowed too). Audio goes normal, anyway. It's with every video decoder I used. As I said before - MPC-HC works great.

But MadVR EM isn't only one drawback. Another is dissapearing menus - I posted screenshot.

Are you using Red October HQ unmodified?  Or are you using your own versions of madVR and LAV.  We don't support anything but ROHQ unmodified.

Thank you for this.  I have (had) the exact same problem.  And, rolling back the windows creator release resolved it.

As you can see it isn't only my problem, and I think it must be solved, because stop upgrading W10 just for MC to work properly, isn't way to go for long. Problem exists on JRMC21 and 23. On fresh install too - without custom filters. And as I said MPC-HC on system madVR works great.

Right now I disabled autoupdate W10 for month.

Anyway your program is best :)

On fresh install too

Fresh Windows 10 Fall Creators Update install? Now this interests me, as it disproves my previous thought that this was caused by a broken Windows upgrade. It *still* could be graphics drivers though - as far as I know the Fall Creators Update ships with WDDM 2.3 (but I doubt this alone could cause an issue). What GPU are you using? Onboard graphics (e.g. Intel) or a discrete GPU like AMD or Nvidia? You could try doing a clean graphics drivers install using Display Driver Uninstaller after downloading the latest graphics drivers first (and disable the Internet so Windows doesn't install the drivers from Windows Update).

Actually, everyone having this issue... what GPU are you using? Intel? AMD? Nvidia? Knowing this might expose a pattern.

I will say this though... the Fall Creators Update has been one of the more buggy Windows 10 releases. Even with a clean install, I've had problems right from the start with user accounts/profiles corrupting themselves upon a clean install and installing the latest Windows Updates and the Cortana bar on the taskbar changing to white instead of the darker color (which is ugly, IMO).

At my place with GTX 960 and a GTX 1070 (latest driver), intel i3+i7 and I have no problems running Win 10 Fall Creators update. I use madVR (ROHQ) but not one of the KI algorithm's.

In first post I wrote my main computer components - i5-3450 and GTX 970. Again - I do nothing more with my PC than update to Fall Creators. After this, MC and MadVR (in that time 21) stopped working in Exclusive Mode. I tried everything - update graphics driver, madVR, LAV. Without success. Then fresh install of MC 23 - nothing changed. After one day of fight with PC (sunday, wife wasn't happy :) and first answer to my post I rolled back W10 update and everything works again.

As I said it's problem with MadVR in exclusive mode. Windowed works. And main important AGAIN - MPC-HC WORKS GREAT with madVR in Exclusive mode in Fall Creators.

I'm ready to buy v23 :) I tested and it's great, very stable - 64bit.

Mine is Nvidia and the only way to overcome this problem was to turn off exclusive mode in Madvr settings.
