I am currently using a Windows laptop, USB hard drive and 15 foot USB cable to my DAC. I am wondering what would be involved in converting to a compact computer with no monitor similar to the one linked using a ipad as a remote and library manager with JRiver? I have both JRiver 19 and 21 now. this would allow me to place the computer and drive close to the DAC. Thanks

Panel or JRemote should be perfectly fine. VNC can be used for setting up MC.

Thanks for the reply. Again, I am a amateur. Could you give me a bit more detail on how to go about it?

Here's the wiki with infos on remotes: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Remotes
VNC is basically mirroring your PC (think of a monitor) to another client (e.g. iPad): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtual_Network_Computing

As you seem to recognize that you're just beginning, here's some advice.
Always try a search first. The forum search just searches the current board unless you click on the magnifying glass symbol that leads you to the advanced search.
Easier may be to use Google. Enter JRiver JRemote or just JRemote. There is a lot of information you will find. Most of it is either on the forum or on the wiki.
On Google, you could even ask "What remotes can I use for JRiver" or "How do I use VNC?" and get a long way.
