Hi!
I have a somewhat complex question, to me at least. Here I go:
I plan on using JRiver for playing all audio in my custom, 8 channel stereo setup. The DAC has 8 channels, and I will use a program called Audiolense to make convolvers that correct time/phase and EQ for all channels.
Now, when I generat a filter in audiolense, I am told to choose samplerate. However, in the help-file of Audiolense I am told that JRiver will resample the convolver to the correct samplerate. We are getting closer to the question:
I am looking into buying a new soundcard/DAC that has options for either a DSD compatible DAC or 192kHz compatible DAC. Will JRiver be able to sample my convolver to DSD samplerates or is there some sort of bottleneck anywhere?

We don't support processing DSD audio at all, so you can't convolve DSD without converting it to PCM first.
-
And this is not unusual. AFAIK, Audiolense and comparable only work with PCM.
-
What if I asked the same question about DXD?
-
Huh, that's a good question actually since DXD is PCM at 24-bit/352.8kHz. I'm guessing it depends on what type of files they are?
-
You cannot do DSP on the DSD stream. This is why they introduced DXD, which is a super PCM ;)
forget about filtering, eq, DRC etc. in the DSD domain, leaving the D upfront as a marketinh hype for DSD enthusisiasts
-
DXD is just plain PCM, its not any special, just marketing.

Yes, but regardless of what you feel about marketing schemes, will the convolver be sampled higher than 192?
-
Our convolver is not limited. If you can output at such high sample rates, then it'll also process the convolution at those rates.
-
As you move to higher sample rates you need more taps - and hence loads of processing power - for lower frequency crossovers and phase correction. You may find that this is the limiting factor.
I unroll the phase on my reflex port, which is tuned to 29Hz. On a recent i5 processor it starts to use a lot of processor at 96kHz sample rate, so I end up downsampling any very high res stuff to that.
Note that MC has the facility to automatically load convolvers that match the sample rate you're playing, so it can change on the fly from 44.1 to 96 etc
