Title: Issues with 5.1 SACD
Post by: PhDSM on January 03, 2018, 03:25:36 am
Hello,

I've loaded several SACD and DTS files to play them on 5.1 audio system.
Most of them play correctly but for some unknown reason some files produce the following message  :

"Playback could not be started using the format: 48 khz 16bit 5ch.
This format would work: 48khz 16bits 2ch   ............."

This seems to occur with files in 5CH despite the format, bitdepth or khz
why 4CH or 6CH plays ok and 5CH ask to be converted in 2Ch ?

Regards

Phil

Not sure exactly what might cause it on your system.

Are you using HDMI, USB or a sound card?  HDMI used to give me trouble and a similar message due to handshake issues.  I now use USB.  No problems.

Another thing that has frequently come up is using Source Number of Channels as your output parameter in DSP Studio.  Use 5.1 instead.  Not sure why that would cause the error message, but it does cause channel misassigments between 5.0 and 5.1 SACDs.

DItto. I think this is the culprit. For some reason 5.0 cannot be played with "source number of channels".

I think fitbrit is right. MC fails to play 5.0 files when channels is set to "source number of channels".

I tried to convert my SACD 5.0 with convert format and DSP set to force 5.1 channel, then the converted file plays correctly.
In term of config I have 5.1 receiver connected thru HDMI.

Also on the same subject as I mentioned in another thread MC fails to report correctly the number of channel on dts wav files. Even if it plays them in 6ch, it still report them inthe db as 2ch files
