Recently purchased a new Denon AVR-X2400H which is on my network and I'm getting to grips with the DNLA side of things.
I'm having an issue with DLNA that I didn't have before when outputting directly from my Mac through a USB DAC.
The scrubbing slider doesn't seem to work or works sporadically.
This applies if I'm using JRiver on my desktop and also with JRemote on iPad and iPhone.
JRiver is running on my iMac. Media is on a Synology NAS.
Any idea what the issue is or how to resolve it?
-
Please don’t multi post.
What media are you scrubbing?
-
Apologies, wasn't intentional, I thought the issue was a JRemote one but after repeating the issue on the desktop realised it was a DNLA one.
Media is music only. FLAC, WAV, some 320kb MP3.
Scrubbing works fine on MC desktop outputting to 'player'
Scrubbing works fine streaming to iPhone and iPad as 'this device'
Issue is streaming to DNLA server. By scrubbing I mean the fast forward type slider.
-
Does it work with WAV and CBR MP3, and not with FLAC? Can you try setting the MC DLNA server to Always Convert the media to (say) L16 No Header?
-
That's another issue I'm having.
Every DSP option is saying 'Playback stopped or current playback doesn't support processing'
Which is a shame as I'd like volume levelling at least.
Mode is set to: Specific Output format
Format: PCM 24 Bit
-
Tried L16 No Header.
Issue remains with all formats (WAV, FLAC, MP3).
DSP still saying 'Playback stopped or current playback doesn't support processing'
-
Do you have the same problem when the MC DLNA server is set to Original?
-
I've got a sneaking suspicion this might be a Denon compatibility issue.
I've got an LG TV that is DNLA enabled so as an experiment I connected to that.
With PCM L16 No header and PCM 16 bit, scrubbing works as it should. Volume control doesn't however.
Still unable to apply any DSP settings. Looking at the sticky at the top of this forum I'm not the only one with the same DSP issues.

Hi
JRiver 20.0.80 on Mac
DLNA server OK
options/media network/add or configure DLNA Servers
Audio
Specified output format
PCM 24 bits
Advanced
Sample rate same as source
DSP Studio
From here, on every option on the left column, I get "Playback stopped or current playback doesn't support processing".
And no effect on sound if I force equalization for example.
What did I miss?
Kind regards

20.0.80
There are newer versions of MC available.
-
I'm running the latest Mac version. Still experiencing the same problems.
As an aside, I just tried airplay to the Denon, scrubbing works so it's definitely DNLA related.
-
Interestingly I've just tried using the HEOS app to stream (presumably DNLA again) from my NAS.
FLAC will fast scrub.
MP3 will not.
WAV will not.
-
Just to bring this to a close, I've had a response from Denon ::)
Dear Sir (s),
As per the specifications in the user manual this is not supported on DLNA NAS playback.
Thank you for your correspondence which we have forwarded to our Research and development team for feedback purposes.
We appreciate you taking the time out to help us improve our products.
Many thanks.
Sincerely,
DENON Customer Support

Certainly the UPNP Seek() functionality depends on a) the format being streamed, and b) the renderer. And possibly also the server application. So your moving the goalposts by playing around with different servers, renderers, and formats, does not help at all to solve your problem. Please tell us, with your Denon renderer, and with MC23, which formats (L16 Converted, MP3 Original, FLAC Original, WAV Original, etc.) do work and which do not.
-
Sorry Andrew, the issue is not with JRiver at all. It's with Denon.
Scrubbing within MC works fine with other renderers. But not with Denon.
Scrubbing doesn't even work properly with their own Heos app (only FLAC will scrub).
MC is playing everything as it should in all formats via DNLA. The Denon is stopping the scrubbing. They themselves say it is not supported.

Switched to outputting to an Oppo UDP-203.
Scrubbing working as it should.
A limitation of the Denon it seems.
