HELP!
(Sorry if this has been covered... I can't find it).
Running MC 9.0.180 on a server and a couple of remotes. Suddenly none of the remotes can connect and load the library. Any attempt gets a dialog box titled "Use Old Media Library?" which says, "A Media Library from a previous version has been detected. Would you like to use it?" with options of Yes and No.
Selecting either button has the same effect... the dialog box closes, there is no error indication but nothing happens, the server is not contacted and the library is not loaded.
Problem is, this is a known good, version 9.0 library.
The server component is running on the server and open on the correct port. It never logs any connection.
I absolutely love MJ/MC but it is completely useless to me if the server/remote stuff doesn't work.

do you have a J river\Media Jukebox And J river\Media Center Folders?
-
No, just a "Media Jukebox" folder (this was an upgrade from version 8).
The only change I'm aware of making was downloading and installing the 9.0.180 build on top of the previous build I was running.
However, I was _extremely_ cautious when making the move from MJ8 to MC9 because of the library changes. It is possible that I do still have an archive copy of the old MJ8 library stashed somewhere on my drive. Are you suspecting that it may be finding that one? Why would it do that? It would have to scan a directory heirarchy to do so, since it is certainly not pointed at an MJ8 lib.
-
well you should have media center also (at least i did when i upgraded from MJ8 )
it created problems so i uninstalled everything deleted the j river folder and did a fresh install of MC9
-
You need to run the same version on all machines. You can't mix them.
-
I am running 9.0.180 on all the machines. The problem surfaced after updating all the machines to the 180 build.
-
Oh yeah... re uninstall/reinstall... done that, no success.
-
did you make sure the J river folder was deleted?
did you allow it to remove the register when you uninstalled?
I wonder if there is some left over MJ files someplace it is finding and then giving you that error.

I didn't anticipate troubles so (unfortunately) I didn't make notes at the beginning but here's the sequence as I recall.
1. Updated workstation to 9.0.180. (Surprisingly, it still connected successfully to the pre-180 build server when I fired it up without thinking).
2. Updated second workstation and server to 9.0.180.
3. Went to bed.
4. Noticed (the next morning) that workstations were no longer connecting. Got a weird dialog (one time on each) that no library had been opened and MC would have to be reinstalled.
5. Rebooted workstation. Still failed.
6. Rebooted server. Still failed.
7. Rebooted workstation again (after server reboot). Still failed.
8. Selected one workstation to resolve problem.
9. Saved a copy of the registry key entries.
10. Zipped up a copy of the Media Jukebox folder heirarchy and the saved registry key entries for archival purposes.
11. Downloaded a fresh copy of the full MC package, Build 9.0.180 and installed it atop current installation.
12. Still failed.
13. Ran unintall from "Add/Remove Programs" control panel applet.
14. Ran fresh install.
15. Still failed.
16. Restored known-good database on server.
17. Still failed.
18. Rebooted server.
19. Still failed.
20. Rebooted workstation (after db restore & reboot on server).
21. Still failed.
22. Searched help, FAQ & forums at Interact. Didn't find anything that seemed applicable.
23. Punted. Posted question on forum.
