Title: Version 24 sound quality
Post by: Thouston on April 14, 2018, 09:24:21 am
I know bit perfect is bit perfect, but for some reason version 24 sounds better than 23. I wish the MC team would admit it and tell us why. It would be a major selling point. I know a lot of people at Steve Hoffman's would buy the upgrade immediately if sound quality improvement was recognized in "changes to vs 24.

24 sounds exactly the same as 23 to me.

The music sounds better to me as well. The best way I can describe it as a more open sound.

Strangely i experience the same, best descriped as a cleaner sound.
Nothing else was changed just the upgrade to MC24.
So we are at least 2 that can hear the diff.
My source is mostly CD format That is not converted going to he DAC (Modified Marantz NA7004) over USB).
So maybe the internal resampler in media player can be the "culprit" (needed for the DSP functions) ??
Mc converts audio to some 64 bit format before processing and I have ticked the "use SOX for resampling" and "output format" so it uses "JRSS Mixing" to 2 channel stereo" to be able to play multichannel files.( dont know if that is active when playing CD waw files ??)
But to my ears (fed by STAX earhones) thats not the whole story.
Anyway big THX to JRiver.

If you hear a difference MC24 to MC23, MC22, then settings especially in the DSP section are different.
Check if the settings are the same , preferable DSP all off.
I hear also with Stax, no sound issues with MC.
I use MC since I guess MC19.

The issues are with the recordings...

What is different, with MC 24 to MC23 - Under Tools->Options->Audio Device>Device Settings for my Devialet USB ASIO Driver I could use 25 ms latency instead of 50 ms in MC23 before.
