I do not know you ,but i am REALLY feed up with all this posts about it
,...SO
MJ OR MC WILL NEVER EVER REVERSE TO cddb -PERIOD
So no need to post here asking again and again .
Here is the answer to the next 1000 posts asking about it : NO x 10000
YES some records are on cddb and not on YADB - as i say ,SOME
YES it is a shame that people with an old cddb registration cannot anyore access they service. This is a cddb problem ,NOT a MJ\MC one.
Because it was the easier way to update YADB data
"I would like to update YADB data ,but it is a pain in the A.. to type all infos.
I agree with you 100%.And will try to give some tips.
WHAT! I pay and you want me to upload to your data ,it is out of question ,it is unacceptable.
You are a rip of..............
Free to you ,to think this.
I have only one answer : vas te faire foutre
And stop to post here ,we are feed up with such a junk stuff.
Now let's try to find out.
--" cdplayer.ini'
A folder where any player puts the cd infos he gets from the web.
Like it any other player you put the cd in can takes infos from this folder instead of going on-line.
By the way it is a very good idea to save this folder on a floppy or another drive if you need to format your drive
BUT ,not all players put cd infos i 'cdplayer.ini ' ,far from it.
Most of the players using cddb2 do not put cdinfos in the 'cdplayer.ini' folder.
As far as i know because it is a clause of the cddb contract.
But we will speak about cddb2 latter .
For now cddb1.
cddb1 is the data that 'older players' use. RalJukebox ,EasyCdcreator, old WinAmp.
This players put cd infos in 'cdplayer.ini'
It is easy to upgrade YADB: after you get infos for the cd,from inside MJ/MC upload it to yadb.
Back to cddb2.
There is 2 well know players who do not use cddb:
WindowsMediaPlayer who puts cd infos in a secret place.
MusicMatch who has a good data and puts cdinfos in 'cdplayer.ini'. But DOES NOT retrieve infos from 'cdplayer.ini'. They want you to upgrade they datas.
If you have MM on your machine you can use it for cds you don't get infos from YADB. And ,of cause ,as before do not forget to upload infos to YADB.
Concerning the 2 leading players usig cddb2.
RealonePlayer puts infos in 'cdplayer.ini'
By the way with custom install and some easy settings ,RealOnePlayer DOES NOT mess around on my machine
WinAmp the dreadfull does not put infos in 'cdplayer.ini'
Because of it many of you using it do not get the cd infos in other player.
Concerning WinAmp 3 there is no way to change it
With 2 there is a not so easy way to get cd infos in 'cdplayer.ini'
If of interest to some i would post how to do it.
Now you have many ways to get cd infos for the few cds not on YADB.
Please do not forget to uppload the infos after getting it
Any player using FreeDB puts cd infos in 'cdplayer.ini'
so you can use it as well

CDBB?
Maybe you mean CDBaby?

Thanks, Zev.

I must remember :Double Double Bastards....
Cd baby is a good place for alternative music
all kinds i mean ,not only rock

I've bought a couple CD's from them. They were great.
On YADB submissions, this week we should have a simplified data entry method. Next build or two. Most people don't realize you can "slow click" on the track names and then use the down arrow key to go to the next track.

this is true, but it also would be nice if you hit the right arrow MJ\MC will go right to the next col.
the other thing that would be nice is like in Excel where you can grab the lower right corner of a cell and pull the info down.
-
Firstly, a big "Thank You" to zevele, for that most informative post which started this thread.
Next, my question. I have a large quantity of CD's which were recorded from analog records (you remember, the big 12 inch black thin wafers with grooves...), and their title/artist/track/cd info is stored in an Excel spreadsheet. I can obviously match the columns of the Media Jukebox to match the column format of the excel spreadsheet, but is there a way to select a block of cells in excel, copy the block, and then select the corresponding block of cells in Media Jukebox and paste the range of cells in one fell swoop?
My current method is to have the Excel spreadsheet open in one window, and Media Jukebox in an adjacent window. I copy and paste one cell at a time, which is rather cumbersome. Slow double click on cell in Excel, press ctrl-C, slow double click on the destination cell in Media Jukebox, press ctrl-V, repeat as necessary, seemingly endlessly.
Any suggestions on how to import this data easier?

on the top for some

Thanks Zevele!

Hey Zevele,
Don't hold back, why don't you tell us what you really feel? ;D
-
Well ,what i think is not what i felt
And not what you may assume.
I start to understand why some are upset with yadb
Since 2 days i check all my cds to see if they are in YADB. And upload if not.-but this i will do later cause i have a large load to upload-
I did not check all the cds not in YADB with cdbb and MM ,but from experience i know i will get most of the infos
OF cause my cds are only Rock music-well let say 98% of them-
And keep in mind that the start to YADB is a FreeDB data.
And because of it YADB looks like a data feed in very large parts by people from countrys where there is a strong open souce ,anti corporate culture.
I mean Europe ,like Germany ,France and others where the State runs Linux and not micro$$$ on all state computers.
And ,to a large part 'the list' in YADB looks like a for sale second hand list from a records dealer from Europe.
If you put any very very very underground Paisley Underground or Desert Rock or Guitar Band from the 80'.
Or any very very very alternatif small french ,german ,spanish grec ect label ,you get a 99% succes rate.
The same with any bot or legal Stooges ,Flaming Groovies ,MC5, and so on.
Out of around 400 cds ,i have only 6 yes SIX not in YADB.
And 2 are one song cd promo ,2 are live bot...
Now you start to get the point : if this kind of music got a 100% succes rate,it means that others kinds get much lower %.
And yes!
original 60' and 70' psy, garage is a drama. There is nothing exept the 13th Floor Elevators. Not even Shadows of Knight or other well know bands
And concerning compilations -is this english ?,various artists i mean- out of more than 100 cds i got 5 or 6 results ,no more.
There is full label catalogues not in YADB.
And there is another problem: many new records are not in YADB.
Of cause.Labels ,artits may upload to cddb or even MM and FreeDB . But how can they upload to YADB?
Only if they know ,have MJ or MC.
And do you have access to YADB with the free version?
Around 90% of israelis bands -with english tags- are on cdbb ,but none on YADB
The Rascals out on cd are not
All the reedition of the Pretty Things are not
Last Les Clayton , all the Small Faces ,Humble Pie out one year ago are not and so on.
Of cause i will upload all of them to YADB. But it is not easy task now. Because you cannot access cdbb and YADB from MJ like before.
Means that you have to feed the cdplayer.ini folder using other jukebox-MM and RealOne.
After that you have to put again the cds in MJ-MC to upload.
Try to work with 2 players at the same time just give you a BIG mess and many 'alt+ctrl+del"
And i have a few hundreds to upload........
Beside this ,if really the cd not in any data ,a very friendly interface like in MM may help a lot to upload.
If i am right saying that data feed for a large part from Europe ,the Jazz data must be very good
Listening to a superb cd on my stereo:
Peaceful World is a wonderful blend of soul, jazz, and funk that never found an audience. Perhaps it was because the positive sentiments expressed in the lyrics were unfortunately becoming passé; perhaps it was the diversity of the two-record set itself. Despite its lack of commercial success, this was an artistic triumph for Felix Cavaliere. With a supporting cast including jazz luminaries Joe Farrell, Hubert Laws, Alice Coltrane, and Ron Carter, Cavaliere creates a musical vision of the Peaceful World conjured up by the album's title. The single, "Love Me," which barely cracked the Hot 100, is a piece of funk in a Sly Stone vein. Guitarist Buzz Feiten's "In and Out of Love" is one of those shoulda-been-a-hit-single songs. Many of the tracks, including the side-long (21:25) title track, are mellow jazz excursions. This ambitious album took the Rascals to the place Cavaliere had been headed over the course of the last couple of albums — but, sadly, the fans didn't follow. — Jim Newsom
By The Rascals
And ripping tons of cds -xing 96 kps ,mind you ,fast and small- to make a massive tracks infos upload one of this days...i have 100 giga free ...so......
-
Hi Zevele, are these "store-bought" or "home-burned" CDs? I'll check the DB for some of the names you mentioned tomorrow...

only one cd is in the data
And others ,but less 'famous' people
All of them from 2000 to this day
Have a look if you see them in the data.
It can be that sometimes the answer is not found with the cd in the data ,i do not know
Like Son Volt ,i am really surprise not to get a positive result.
Anyway ,i will upload them. Until now ,i have around 150 cds to upload.
I will not upload various artists for now ,most of the tags ,from any data are no good.
I need to retag most of them.
But i have around 500 hundred more to check.
I mean for now. More to come later...MUCH more.
I rip all this cds to upload tracks infos. But first i have to check because i saw that sometimes only part of the tracks have the year tag and genres are ..well....
What i mean is this:take a band like Rain Parade .All is in the data ,and live bots , even the super rare disc Demolition.
So rare that the few times it was on Ebay ,it got a $ 80-100 price.
To found this record in YADB ,i was with open mouth.
But the last legal disc -a live- out few months ago is not in YADB.
Anyway i dust mes records ,i change boxes ...and i found some still wrap in the paper ..and some in double.
So i do not help only YADB in all this storie..
By the way regular records from the shop ,not burn cds.
They are digipack ,so i really need to have the artefact
-
Hi Zevele,
Some are there, some are not. I think the reason they are not recognized is that the ones in the database are home-burned (with slightly different gaps between the songs) or different pressings. I think I have a way to make it better, but it'll be a while before I can get to it. In the meantime, I'll see if I can't come up with a hack to make it easier to get the info.

Well will YADB work on one file only, I have mentioned before, but last week before I had to doa complete reinstall, I could get CDDB info an one file. but cant now??
No idea why
-
Media Center 9 does individual track lookups (and the database is becoming large enough to be useful), Media Jukebox 8 doesn't, but MJ9 will when it is released.

For me ,cds in YADB or not is not a problem.
If they are not ,i just upload them.
It is just that i wanted to understand why some are really upset with YADB.
Beside this i know that there is sometimes many versions of the same records.
Like Pretty Things. You may have some first reeditions in YADB ,and also the US Snapper label reeditions with x extra songs from 2000. Now there is the Repertoire label edition with x + x extra songs.
Not an easy task ,for sure.
And if ,as you say ,burned cds are a proble m,this does not make things easy..
Anyway ,look like i will upload around 200 cds in YADB.
But my work may makes things better only for people listening to Rock and metal ,not house ,trance ,hip hop or mtv music
