I began experiencing this problem several versions ago on MC23 but it has continued with MC24. Upon opening/launching MC 24 menus will sporadically open at the top of the screen without any selection and will eventually close. This will also happen on occasion if I have the pointer near, but not on, the areas for selecting drop down menus. There seems to be no rhyme or reason but it is annoying, still.

Same here, any fix would be appreciated.
-
... and here, too
-
YEP this is right back from MC23 ... had it there as well (MC22 did not have it I recall)
-
I can't reproduce this behavior. Any ideas on what I should try to make it happen?

Are you all using retina displays?
Any multiple monitor setups?
What primary screen resolution?

1) No.
2) Yes. MC is running in the primary monitor (on a MacBook Air).
3) 1440x900.

Could you remove the second monitor? Just to test.
And see what other resolutions do.
What version of OSX?

I've had this problem for the last month or so in MC23 and now in MC24.
Using iMac 27, Retina, High Sierra v.10.13.4
View submenu pops up when I click on the MC window, disappears if I click elsewhere on the MC window. If I click on the Media Center 24 title in the menu bar, the Quit command shows briefly before being replaced by the View submenu so you can't quit the program from the Quit command (but you can do so using the Windows style X in the MC window).

Retina Display for me, Retina mode in MC. Resolution 27-inch - 5120 x 2880. Only 1 monitor.
Cmd-Tab back and forth always causes the issues. Has for many MC releases.
Launching MC always launches with the Help menu open.

What version of OSX?
Unplugged the external, same menu behavior on startup of MC and CMD+Tab.
I changed to 1024x680, same thing.
Mac OS X 10.13.3.
I did a quick screen recording to be clear what it is that's happening. This is when you start MC. It seems to flash through all of the menus in rapid succession. When you CMD+Tab to MC, you get one menu popping up wherever the mouse is. Meaning, if my mouse is on the left side of the screen, the menu will popup where the apple logo is. I always get the View menu.

I have no idea how to replicate this. It did not used to happen, I can say that much for a fact. I remember reading someone's post here about it and thought "I've never seen that." Then shortly after it started occurring for me and it happens about 90% of the time I launch MC. Not always, but regularly enough.

Mac OS X 10.13.3.
I think there is a newer one available.

I've been trying to replicate this, and I can't.

Yeah, it looks like 10.13.4 was released about 3 weeks ago. I'm happy to do that upgrade later today.

Random thought: what other applications do you guys experiencing this run on the Mac? Maybe it's some sort of conflict.

I currently just have Firefox, Chrome, a Citrix client and MC open.
-
System is up to date. 10.13.4. System version is not a factor - this has been happening for many MC releases, and many macOS versions.
I just installed MC for the first time on a Macbook Pro. The problem occurs on first launch, and always there after.
On my Desktop quitting all apps. Still occurs.
-
Citrix isn't very common.
-
I believe this is being caused by Dropbox.
I've quit and uninstalled Dropbox on both systems. Rebooted, and the problem no longer seems to occur on either system.
Reinstalled Dropbox, and the problem no longer seems to occur. Perhaps they had some faulty residual extensions that are not cleaned up during updates, but are removed on uninstall.
Nope, its not Dropbox. It just started up again w/Dropbox uninstalled.

We can't reproduce it here either. Our main Mac build machine is a Mini. It's entirely up to date with both the OS and Dev system.
We also have a retina Mac laptop, also current that doesn't show the behavior either.
It would be nice if we could find something in common from the users that are having the issue. Nothing seems to jump out at me yet. It seems to occur with or without retina, with or without multiple monitors. It doesn't sound like you all are totally current on MacOS but that seems unlikely to be the issue.

Well, everyone encountering this should either a) list every application installed on the Mac or b) take screenshot(s) of the Applications folder in Finder and post them here.
Probably wouldn't hurt to open Activity Monitor and take screenshots of every process running there too AND it also probably wouldn't hurt to list any/all applications running in the menu tray next to the clock. Looking at the video posted above, it looks like there's a good bit of apps running in the background up there.
I've been using MC for Mac since near the very beginning (with multiple installs on macOS) and I've NEVER seen the menus pop up when starting MC or using CMD+Tab to cycle through apps.
-
I may have just figured this out, and have been able to repeat it every time.
It is triggered once you've used Accessibility's Zoom feature.
Enable Control Panels/Accessibility/Zoom/Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom (my setting is to use the Control key).
Now hold down the control key and pull down with two fingers on your track pad, or one finger on your mouse. This will cause the screen to zoom. Return the screen to normal size pushing up the same way.
MC will now have the menu problem until you reboot.
-
Yep, seeing it here now, good work uncovering this! Oddly enough, it didn't do it for me when setting it to use Control or Command as the modifier key, but Option. But I didn't have to do any gestures either to reproduce this - just enable the setting and set a modifier key then open MC for Mac. When reproducing this just make sure MC for Mac is closed first, set that option (try each modifier key if you need to) then start MC for Mac. It'll pop up the menus when opening now.
For reference, here's the setting highlighted in red:

I am using a Macbook Pro mid-2014 with retina display
No multiple monitors
2560 x 1600 retina resolution
using OS 10.13.4
This began happening to me on a later version of MC 23 for Mac which I also reported on that forum
This occurs in two ways for me. Upon launch of MC 24. I just now launched and the Help menu popped at the top middle of screen immediately. I have to click somewhere on the page for it to disappear. The other occurrences seem to be when the cursor is near the top of the page (switching back to MC 24 this moment trying to look at something I wanted to describe here the View menu popped up) I may make a selection within one of my views and if I move the cursor into the top bar a menu will pop up and the cursor is no where near the menu selections (and at this moment part of the View menu popped up).

Great detective work.
That should lead us to a solution.

No experience with any other application for me.

Mine is set to Control. Should I try setting it to Option?
I just changed it to Option. I closed everything on my MacBook and did a restart. Opening up MC 23 and MC 24 I did not get the pop up menus I have been seeing. However I have always used Control Zoom and I never had any problems with the pop up menus from MC18 forward until a late version of MC23.
-
It doesn't matter what you set the option to (it likely varies). If Use scroll gesture with modifier keys to zoom is enabled (and set to whatever, again, it likely varies) it's triggering the menus to pop up.
If you're a user encountering the menu pop up issue and you have that accessibility option enabled, as a test I'd try disabling that accessibility option (and rebooting the Mac) and see if the issue completely goes away. Nonetheless, the devs should be able to easily reproduce it now.

Thank you guys for fixing that.
