Title: START page
Post by: The Dude on June 11, 2003, 07:39:54 pm
I may be missing something, but what is the purpose of the Start page? It may be useful for a first-time user, but after that it just kinda takes up space in the left pane. Is there a way to remove it, or perhaps customize it? And while I'm at it, is there a way to remove other items in the left pane? I don't have a tuner card in my laptop, so the TV function is useless to me and just takes up space.

The start-page is just a HTML-file so you can modify it VERY easy.

For the left-pan, well, perhaps you can try it with Resource-Hacker, but beware, one wrong key pressed, and your MC is "gone with the wind":)

An official way for modifying the panel doesn't exist (yet?).

The Start Page changes from time to time. If you're connected to the internet, MC can automatically download a new Start Page that can contain news about MC or other links that may be of interest to the users.

And one explanation that I've heard for not allowing items to be removed from the tree is basically advertising. A prospective buyer that sees MC on a PC somewhere may not realize it's capable of TV Tuner capabilities if the user has that node removed from the tree.

Personally, I just ignore it.

Yepp, this is the way ... just replace it with an own "index.htm" with your favorite links on or a page which forwards to your favorite startpage...
