Hi there
Has anyone built a htpc around the new AMD Ryzen 5 with integrated graphics. Sounds like it will support UHD playback?
Keen to hear experiences and opinions.
Cheers

Hello
Following up on this as HTPC definitely on the final blink.
Need to replace with 1) a main living room client machine that will need to run UHD so I'm guessing a GTX 1060 6GB, 2) a second client machine that can probably cope with Full HD, so maybe the Ryzen with integrated graphics will do, and 3) a server to house 12 HDD and also double as a DAW with Ableton Live.
My question - thinking about cost/performance, these won't do gaming, so would the new 2nd Gen Ryzen with iGPU be adequate on the clients for 4k UHD Blu-ray/mkv and 4k Netflix? And should I go for a more powerful CPU on the server?
Appreciate any guidance if you've used these new APUs?

They're only a couple of months old, so it's possible that no-one here has used them.
I think they're considered to be roughly on-par with an NVIDIA GT1030, so would be quite a step down from a 1060.
They should still be capable of 4K playback, just not with all the best quality options turned up.

I agree. The iGPU will probably work, but at low settings. A dedicated GPU will have the head room to drive better results. I guess it depends on what size screen and how much of a pixel peeper you are.

Some comments from my side:
-If you are playing 4k video, to my understanding Ryzen APU's directly send the HDMI 2.0 compatible stream through the HDMI output of the mainboard to the TV, even if the mainboard is specified HDM 1.4. Does anybody know if this is correct?

-iGPU speed would depend on memory speed
-With my GTX 960 I could scale up all my 1080i/p content with Chroma=Jinc+AR, Image=Lancos 3 taps+AR@ leading to < 60% GPU utilization. The GTX 960 had a 3Dmark Firestrike of 7166, Ryzen 5 2400g 3228 (see Guru3D test: http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_5_2400g_review,26.html (http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_5_2400g_review,26.html))
.
Extrapolation: I would guess you could play 1080i/p upscale it to 4k but with less demanding algorithm's or to say it simple RO HQ standard config.
