Hi
Since installing 24, I have found on the last few mornings that my server machine is hanging with an error message saying that MC has crashed. MC is set to wake and update the TV epg (over the air - UK Freeview) at 0100 each morning so its waking to do that and then crashing which then prevents the machine from returning to sleep.
I have just tried a manual update and had the same result, it seemed to complete the update and then crashed.

Send me a log. I am not seeing any crashes like that, so I wonder whether it is related to DVB over-the-air epg scan.

Your log file does not contain any EPG scan related code. If you restarted after a crash, you should give me "Previous Log.txt" not "Log.txt", or give me both. Better yet you should send the entire zipped package created by clicking "Report problem..." button.

I had the same situation this morning and tried a reinstall before I read your message.
Ive attached the latest log report but the reinstall may have deleted the relevant section.
Here is what I have, if its not helpful I will generate another later today.

Still incorrect. You provided logs that were collected after multiple restarts of MC. All logged events had been lost already.

Have you tried re-installing MC24? If you have not, try that first. Reboot before re-installing, reboot again after re-installation.

Ok, have tried reinstalling.

OK this time it contains valid log entries.
It shows that TV engine stopped responding during cleanup after EPG scanning. Unfortunately I am not able to conclude anything more than just that. I will keep an eye on this.

As you have just installed MC24, do you still have MC23 installed? Have you turned off MC23 starting with Windows? I'm sure you have rebooted the PC since installing MC24, at least after the MC crashes.
I'm thinking both MC23 and MC24 are trying to start an EPG at the same time, or something like that. It is unlikely that both MC23 and MC24 would both keep starting with Windows successfully, but it is possible. Look into that.

I installed the latest version of 24 last night but same thing, MC had stopped overnight. I have checked and v23 is not running on Windows start, I have both versions set to manually start so I can choose.
I also have 24 running on a NUC (as a client so no epg update) but no issues with that machine. I shall return to v23 for now on the server and wait for updates unless you have any further suggestions?
Happy to supply logs etc if it helps at all.

I normally use EPG Collector, but saw something similar yesterday when I attempted a UK ota epg scan out of interest. I tried it twice. MC crashed during the first scan. I tried again, this time not using the PC during the scan. When I returned to the PC, MC was no longer running. (24.0.20 / 64)

With the new dll, MC closes itself as it approaches the end of the scan. Showing '119 of 126 complete' before it closed.

Same result for me. I installed the new .dll and rebooted. When I arrived home MC had stopped with error message. I restarted and a manual epg update ran, I didnt watch but a few minutes later I found MC had stopped again.

Installed new DLL, same result, still crashes towards or at the end of the scan. :(

I also have this issue (MC Crashes at towards the end of loading the EPG). My Log is attached as well (note: I have 2 x EPG loads, one from ICETV and one from DVB-T Scanning). It appears to be the DVB-T part that causes the crash for me.

Thank you all for the logs. All of them indicate that the program got stuck at exactly the same spot. That is good since we have some consistency. The bad news is I don't understand why it happended :-[ :-[ :-[
It hung when it tried to delete an array of TV channels.

I'm suspicious of security updates in Win 10.

No problems with EPG here.
USA comcast, mc2xml with Sch Dir.
Windows 10 64 Pro v1803, Defender, all updates.

No problem using EPG Collector and an XMLTV load either.
It sounds like it is just the OTA EPG collection that fails.

So far this is only an issue with OTA EPG scanning in DVB land. I have only tested ATSC OTA EPG scanning on Windows 7. I don't know whether there is a problem on Windows 10. The three people reporting problems (from UK and Australia) all use Windows 10.

I tested on a Windows 10 machine. No crash. So it must be DVB only.
Does it happen with earlier builds of MC24 for you guys?

For me, yes it has crashed since the first public builds of v24.
Would you like me to turn off the epg update for a bit and see if the crashes stop?

In my opinion, it's clearly related to the EPG update. Turning it off should result in no crashes.

Did it not happen at all with MC23? Maybe something I did at the beginning of MC24.
Nathan, can you test the first few MC24 beta builds please?

FYI - I turned off the DVB-T EPG Collection yesterday and MC did not crash. I too "think" it was a MC24 thing but I had other crashes issues that Bob has just fixed! I'll go back through the MC24 Builds and see when it started....

Thanks for testing and helping me track down the problem.
It turns out to be a bug that had existed ever since DVB EPG Scanning was introduced. It was however masked by another bug. The crash did not happen prior to build 16 because the other bug caused cleanup code to be skipped.

Just to confirm, my server has updated twice today without issue and is running nicely.

It's included in the latest update (out now). You just need to install it (no need to delete the trial DLL etc).
