Title: What are the video formats for ripping ? HELP
Post by: prova on May 12, 2018, 05:35:38 am
JRiver is good at ripping original movies from a DVD in MKV format files (h.265 or h.264)? If it's possible, how should I proceed? From the menu: Tools> Options> Encoding, I find only the audio formats (Mp3, DSD, Flac etc.). There are no video formats. If it extracts a movie, the video file is saved by default in TS (folder) format. JRiver which video formats do you manage to save?

JRiver just copies the files from the DVD.  It doesn't change the format.

People often suggest makemkv. [corrected]

I think JimH meant makemkv (http://www.makemkv.com/), which is what I've used for years.  Works for DVD and BluRay ripping to mkv files, which MC handles great, and is probably the 'standard' video container in use now.
