Hi all
I'm trying to register my evaluation copy of media centre 9 but having problems. When it downloaded and automatically tried to install an error box came up saying;
error opening file : c:\Documents and settings\bri\Desktop\media centre9-27047.mjr
followed by another one saying;
Error restoring media centre license: Failed opening license file.
I right clicked on the link to save the registration file and have tried registering with that but always with the same boxes. I also tried using the web page to restore it but get the same boxes.
Can you help me?
Thanks in advance

There is a FAQ here:
www.mediajukebox.com/license
You may need to login with admin privileges.
Use IE as your browser.
> media centre9-27047.mjr
Did you change the name?

Hi,
Thanks for replying.
>You may need to login with admin privileges.
Do you mean log in to windows as the administrator. I already am.
>Use IE as your browser.
I'm using IE too. I have winXP and IE6.

>Did you change the name?
Of the registration file? No. It downloaded like that. And the restore page does nothing either. I've used 2 of my restores trying.
I have tried completely uninstalling media centre (incl. reg and libraries) and reinstalling, but no luck.
Any thoughts?

Something changed the name. I don't think that's the problem but try spelling it with center, not centre. Centre is incorrect.
If it isn't that, then perhaps a virus checker is being overly aggressive.
What version do you have? Copy your system info from MC help and paste it here.

Hi again,
I checked the name of the file and it is called:
Media Center9-27047.mjr
I'm sorry. I'm English and when I was typing out the error message I used the English spelling. Really the error messages say "Center".
I'm not using any virus checking software but I do use Outpost Firewall. Even witht that disabled i get the same message though.
Here is the system info copied from media centre:

Don't worry about using up restores. When we get this figured out I'll clear your restore counter to zero.
Please try another restore and right-click and save the file somewhere on your disk (maybe at the root of the C drive). Then double-click on this file. The filename should end with ".mjr". Still get the error boxes? Try doing a file search on your computer for instances of mjextman.exe. Delete all of them and reinstall MC. Now try double clicking that "mjr" file. Still doesn't work? Try opening the mjr file with notepad and see if you get any errors. What size is the fille? You could email it to me and I'll try it here.
I tried installing your license on my machine and it worked ok.
Thanks,
John T.

Hi again,
Thanks so much for your prompt responses.
I tried restoring again from original downloaded registration file. No luck.
I searched for the file you told me to and then deleted everything that turned up in the search ( 2 files).
Then I reinstalled the program.
Next I opened my registration e-mail in outlook express instead of using the hotmail.com website, and downloaded the registration file again.
Finally I opened the newly installed media centre again and tried to register again. This time it registered!
I guess because of deleting the files you told me to and reinstalling, or because I used outlook express instead of opening the file from the hotmail page.
Either way, I'm happy. Thanks for all the support. Now time to use this cool prgram fill my new ipod up :D
Thanks again

Thanks for posting the results and I'm glad it's working for you. It was probably an older (bad) mjextman.exe file which caused the problem. I cleared your restore counter to zero.
