this is a newbie question...
mp3 play fine, even 320 kps with 16bit /44100Hz.
my DSP settings:
no change for 44100 Hz to 96000 Hz, everything else is set to 48000 Hz
pls help
PS: vlc plays it without problems, so it must be the settings...

Do they play if you uncheck Output Format in DSP Studio (so nothing is resampled)?
-
nope, -> error message, s. attached:
"Output encoding" is set to none, s. attached jpg

Try unchecking the Output Format box itself. See it in the first screenshot on the left side? You might try unchecking the Headphones box too, just to test and rule things out.

did so, no change, song did not play, same error message
see attached images

What kind of DAC/onboard audio/other audio device are you using? Did you set the device in MC's Options > Audio > Audio Device dropdown (and make sure you're not using the default CoreAudio audio device)?
One longshot thing to try would be opening the Audio MIDI Setup app that's available on the Mac, find your DAC/audio device and set it to the highest bit-depth/sample rate available for your device and see if that helps. Another longshot thing to try is setting everything (including 44.1 kHz and 96 kHz) in Output Format under Sample Rate to 48,000 kHz and see if it works then.

I'm using a Sony WH-1000XM2 headset (Bluetooth), which is set in the Audio Device dropdown (image 1)

The Audio MIDI Setup shows two different sample rates for the headset and the internal speakers (44100 kHz vs 48000 kHz, images 2 and 3).
Headset and internal speakers need two different DSP sample rate settings, headset 44100 kHz, internal speakers 48000 kHz for everything (images 4 and 5) --> THEN IT WORKS
Thank you very much! Problem solved!!
...I have 2 questions:
- what does it mean for the listening quality to play a recording sampled with 96000 kHz with 44100 kHz?
- do I really have to switch output configuration when moving from the headset to the internal speakers? (Yes I know, there is LOAD/SAVE... but anyway can it automatic?)
Thanks again for the quick help and solving the problem!

You can use zones and ZoneSwitch to change settings automatically. The wiki has two topics.
