Title: Using MC to rip to flac....what # to use

it says that 6 is recommended, then states a higher # will result in smaller file size...I'm confused.....I usually just do ape but it's not for me. any thoughts on this...wiki not much help! goggle either.

Level 6 FLAC compression is the default because it is typically the best balance between compression ratio, and encoding time.
Higher levels produce marginally smaller file sizes but take significantly longer to encode (2-3x).

FYI - Decompression time is not appreciatively affected by the amount of compression.  It takes significant time to find the patterns to compression, but it takes very little to recognize the compressed data to decompress. 

Also,  a compression of 5 compared to 0 usually only adds less than 10% additional compression.  This, of course, depends on the original music.
