I am running a licensed 9.0 on my large home machine, but want to travel with a subset on my laptop. My laptop is small (108 MHz) I have the music over on it and runnin in version 8 (298), I do have the mp3 that I need but I want the Playlists. Everything in my 9.0 is also on my 8.0, but the playlists need to be transferred somehow. HOW? I created an m3u, but version 8 did not recognize it and if it does, it will put dups on my laptop. I don't want dups. This should be a standard question as lots of people will be running 9 on their big home machine, but want a subset on their travel machine. My travel machine has an external 30 gig machine and is almost full. How do I transfer the playlists?

I am really surprised that there is NO response on the above concern. It appears that there definitely needs to be way to move playlists between versions. My laptops just do not have the juice to run version 9.

The databases are not compatable

Version 9 should run with less juice required than 8.
Try turning off anything unnececessary, both in MC and in the OS.

MC 9 will NOT run on my Pentium III 500Mhz laptop. I have tried lots of options. I have lots of problems in playback mode. I really like 9 with the support of images, etc, and dislike having to run both version 8 and version 9, but I was recently on a vacation with 9 running on my laptop and had nothing but problems. Had to revert back to 8. It was very embarasing.

King,
Is there a workaround to get playlist from 9 back to 8?
-
If you mean library, no. If you really mean playlists, you can export all playlists (in M3U format) and then re-import them to version 8. That should work.

Mastiff
Is correct you can export a Standard M3U format Play List, but you can not use the MC Generated Play lists.
-
No, not the smartlists. Sort of. You can export them (I do that to do a printout of all my albums) but they of course won't be dynamic any more. But I think all other MC generated play lists under the playlist heading will be exportable. Or have I misunderstood something? Should I keep my big mouth shut and let people think I'm an idiot rather than opening it and removing all doubt? ;D

I worked on the concept of exporting to M3U
Then (since my databases are identical) except for the location (sometimes "D" sometimes "E" ) I read the M3U file in Word, and mass change the location (search and replace)
Then save the M3U
Then Import the M3U into the 8 library.
The only problem with this solution, you have to mass change each playlist separately...... Not a big deal but it does work. You do have to have all the "moon" aligned.....
Thanks for the suggestions. It works, and I am happy.
I just cannot run 9.0 on the laptop as yet. Not enough power. Hope the consumption changes in 9.0 and then will move to 9 accross both systems.
You guys are doing a wonderful job, keep it up.
