Hello, been a JRiver user for a few years now, first time on the forums though. Unfortunately, its because i have a problem.
Ever since I upgraded to v24, the Media Server always freezes up after a day or so. I have to kill all the processes, or just reboot.
Its Windows 10.
JRiver v24.0.30
Any ideas would be super helpful, i've never had any problems with stability before with this product.
-
When you say it freezes, what exactly happens? What are you doing at the time?
-
it no longer responds to anything.
right mouse click on the icon in the task bar does not bring up the menu ( does not respond to the click ).
Server no longer shows up on my network.
in most cases, i'm not doing anything. most certainly, not doing anything i havent done with the previous versions.
i've got logging turned on but the logs are hard to decipher if your not familiar with them, which i'm not.
-
also might be worth noting that i tried the 64-bit version first, and then removed it, and tried the 32 bit version, same problem.
I've also removed all the previous versions ( 22 and 23 ).
-
Strange. It's not something we're seeing.
Any other changes to the machine?
-
nope. not that i can think of.
v23 was super stable. this all started after upgrading to 24.
-
Antivirus?
-
Did you try updating your video driver?
-
i'm using the same antivirus program i've used forever. no changes there.
i'm on the latest nvidia driver as well.
it's frozen again this morning when i checked it. it was working normally last night when i last used the server.
-
i'm using the same antivirus program i've used forever. no changes there.
Please uninstall it, just to test.
-
I'm on the latest nvidia driver as well.
if not....always always download this type of driver from the manufacturer and not from windows update
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Scan.aspx?lang=en-us
or
http://www.nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx
-
so i'll humor you for testing purposes.... but i really cant just leave the AV off for a few days while i wait and see if the Media Server freezes up again.... gotta be another way.... i'll look in the AV logs.
i always grab the NVIDIA driver from their website.....

i've checked the McAfee logs and there is nothing jriver in the logs. i check the on-access scanner logs as well as the "access protection" logs.
i have the logs from jriver, is there anywhere i can send those or upload them for examination?
-
Logs may not show what the antivirus is doing. Uninstalling it is the only way to eliminate it as the cause.
If you're using Win10, you also have Windows Defender running. Two antivirus programs isn't a good idea. Windows Defender also needs to be set correctly. Please see the thread on it here.
-
actually, that's not correct. Defender is off. VirusScan Enterprise turns off Defender when you install it. I've confirmed this on 3 Windows 10 machines that I have. McAfee is on, Defender is off on all 3.

in the jriver logs, i see tons of Socket bind failed errors. is this normal?
16083328: 504: Sharing Plugins: VSocketReader::Bind: Socket bind failed: Unknown error Socket: 3704 Size: 16 Address: 192.168.1.5 Port: 1900
there are 12,000 of them in the log!
192.168.1.5 is the IP of my Windows 10 machine which runs jriver.
-
Uninstall McAfee. Just to test.
You could try opening port 1900 on your firewall. SSDP runs on port 1900. It's required.
-
Perhaps something else uses port 1900 already?
-
here is the problem with what you are asking me to do. you are asking me to disable my anti-virus software for some unknown amount of time, while we wait for jriver to freeze up again. this could be a day or two. that makes me really uneasy.
lets say it IS the antivirus scanner, and 4 days from now, jriver is still working properly and we make the determination that yes, it was the av scanner. then what?? just trash it? find another product? or, do we get it to work the McAfee product?

If you want help, you will have to try some things. Disconnect from the Internet if you want to.
Read some of these if you question my advice:

If you want to solve it on your own, then do whatever you like.
Investigate port 1900. Something is blocking it.
-
Network Discovery (SSDP-In) was open for UDP 1900 for "any any" on local subnet ( private ).
never had any problems with jriver's functionality, never had any problems until this problem for which i created the thread. so i'm not so sure this is a problem, just combing the logs for anything that might be a clue.
-
another note about the port 1900.... when jriver is not frozen, it works perfectly. perhaps its out of the scope of this problem i'm having.
-
Check back after you have uninstalled McAfee.
-
Here's a somewhat similar problem:
