Referring to your version history (http://www.monkeysaudio.com/cgi-bin/YaBB/YaBB.cgi?board=general&action=display&num=1054173671), you cite header changes and unicode support. Here's my question.
I have about 800+ APE 3.97 files. You have stated in other threads that 3.98a is already built into MC. Will all the headers in my APE files get updated to the new format automatically? I doubt that would be the case, so to ask another way, is there any way to force an update?
Also, would this be backwards compatible meaning will I still be able to play/convert my new APE files with other programs whose plug-ins have not been updated yet? (mainly thinking about dBpowerAMP's MC)
Thanks!

(I know, I hate bump posts, too, but I really want Matt to answer this tomorrow when he gets into work. Please forgive me.)

New versions always plays old files. Old versions can't play new files.
Any version of APE file can be tagged with the new Unicode-friendly APEv2 tags.
And you have to "Convert" (using Monkey's Audio) if you want to upgrade your files to the latest version, but there's no reason to do that unless compression or speed dramatically improves or something.
Thanks.
