jriver mc 24 cannot read m4a file when WASAPI mode.
somebody let me know how settings jriver mc?
reference the default mode it read m4a file.
thank you.

MC 24.0.30 will play m4a files in wasapi mode, I am listening to one now as I write this. Unfortunately I can't read your screen dump so help with settings is difficult but it does work.

I can also play M4A files in MC with no problem, whether they contain AAC or ALAC audio.
I have nothing special in my audio setup to play them. I'm just using the motherboard device "Realtek High Definition Audio [WASAPI]" in Exclusive mode.
Can you play other formats in MC okay?
-
Thank you for your reply.
I can play AIFF file by WASAPI mode.
And my systems are windows10pro>JRiver MC>Airfoil(airplay appli)>wifi>airmacexpress>amplifier>speakers.
Airfoil customer service said it can play WASAPI mode.
Thank you.

Just looked around the airplay site and came across this
https://rogueamoeba.com/support/knowledgebase/?showArticle=AirfoilWinWASAPI
It says use directsound output or wasapi in shared mode ie untick the exclusive box. You might want to visit the site to check it out.

Thank you for your help.
Though I already know this setting for airfoil.
I uncheck the box marked "Open device for exclusive access".
but and yet the JRiver mc not read m4a file.
I have to use usb dac device?
Thank you.

Just looked around the airplay site and came across this
WASAPI Exclusive mode is the correct setting. That article is just providing information on how to hear sounds from other applications or system sounds while MC is playing audio. Option 3) is best.
Also, that article doesn't inspire confidence. It refers to WASAPI as "relatively recent". It was introduced with Vista, 10 years ago!
A better solution, if there are local PC speakers available, is just to set the local speakers as the Windows default audio device, and set the Airfoil as the output audio device in MC. Although it looks like maybe Airfoil only captures the Windows default audio device, so it may not be possible to do that. I would still use WASAPI Exclusive mode in MC for the best sound.
What you need to do is find out what audio formats Airfoil supports. Bit-depth and Sample rate. I couldn't see that anywhere on their site. Do the M4A files that won't play have higher Bit-depth and Sample rate?
You aren't trying to Bitstream to Airfoil I assume? Bitstreaming is off?

Check out this post: https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,114934.0.html
You may want to ask Jmone why "Airfoil does not like WASAPI", as he noted in the MC setup.

Thank you for your information.
The setting difficult for me. so,I bought luxman da150 dac then it can read m4a.
I think that it was probably a problem with pc's device and airfoil and jriver mc.
Thank you very much.

m4p files? Are you sure? Because m4p files are DRM-protected (with the FairPlay DRM) they can't play in MC24 - only in iTunes/QuickTime. If correct, your only chance is to obtain DRM-free files if possible.
-
I mistake m4p >m4a.

Finally I understood the cause of this trouble.
The cause was Apple Music.
Apple Music will synchronize the sound source in the cloud arbitrarily.
At that time, AIFF will be replaced with a file compressed to m4a (Apple Lossless).
Since the bit rate of m4a at that time varies from song to song, and because of bit rate not compatible with WASAPI,
An m4a file which can not be read by JRiver MC occurred.
Sorry everyone, I made a noise
