Hi all,
Strange behavior this one. If I play back accessing the titles directly from a BD ISO (as I have been doing for many years) all is fine, but if I use the new BD menu function and start playback from there, the playback is stuttered and stops and starts. Even more strange is, it doesn't happen all the time.
Hope this is something small, I really like having the menu function back!

Couple of Q:
- What GPU / CPU do you have
- Are you using the MC shipped version of madVR or have you upgraded it manually
- Have you changed any of the madVR settings
- Is it stuttering on just the Menu on also when playing the menu

Hi, thanks for your reply.
- What GPU / CPU do you have - Intel Core i5-3570 16gb ram NVidia GTX 1060 6gb
- Are you using the MC shipped version of madVR or have you upgraded it manually - MC shipped version
- Have you changed any of the madVR settings - Oh yes, many.
- Is it stuttering on just the Menu on also when playing the menu - It doesn't stutter at all when playing the menu, just when you access a title from the menu, after a random amount of time, it stutters when playing back the title. Should I read the madvr OSD when this happens? Will that tell me anything? As said if I don't use the menu to access to title, it plays flawlessly as it has always done.

Please test with video set to Red October and no changes to madVR.

Sorry just to be clear, if I choose Red October HQ from General Video Settings is this sufficient to not use madvr with changes I have made? I can still see the madvr settings under this setting and when I open it still contains all of my modifications.
How do I use ROHQ without using all of MADvr settings?

...also have a look at the madvr OSD at the stuttering points to see what is happening.

So I chose ROHQ but I think the madvr settings are still mine not sure how to turn these off.
It still stutters when accessing titles form BD menu. Madvr OSD just reports all the queues drop down very low as the video slows and pauses and then go back up to full again when the video resumes. Anything else here I should note?
Its weird, it takes a good minute of playback before it starts stuttering but then it slows down and pauses for about 5 seconds and then resumes for another 30 secs and the pauses again etc.

Have a look in the nvidia control panel --> 3D Settings --> Manage 3D Settings --> Power Managment Mode. If it is set to "Optimal Power" try "Adaptive" instead.

Thanks for this advice, unfortunately this did not change the stuttering issue.

I don't know why it would be that different. There is some overhead to running the Java Code but .... You may have to try tweaking your madVR rendering settings (esp if it is close to the Average Stats in ms is close to the your frame ms)
-
So am I the only person with this issue? That seems odd.
-
Yup (well so far anyway)
-
Are you using hardware accelerated video decoding? If not, try turning that on?
-
Go to MadVR rendering settings.
Increase both the CPU queue and GPU queue. I set CPU to 24 and GPU to 12 and the stuttering is gone!

Yes this is enabled.

Tried this but it still stutters about 30 secs after playback of title from menu. It seems to reproduce the exact same stutter in the exact same place of the video. The whole picture pauses and the queues drop down low, some to zero and then play resumes and the queues fill up again. If I play the same title directly without using the menu - no issues. So weird.

Just to add to this, title playback from DVD iso menus is flawless so this is just a BD iso menu issue. Not sure if that helps to identify the issue?

I think I've found something. I'm testing a new NUC Build and was looking at how well it coped with UHD BD @60p. It played fine without menus but would stutter with menus. As you can see from the attached pics, HW Decode is not working (and CPU is then maxed out) when using the Menu but it is fine when playing just the title.
Note: this is with an Intel iGPU and using RO Std

So is this pointing to an issue with BD menu function within MC? Disabling HW decoding?

Actually it looks as though some people had this problem back in April but no solution was found?
