Title: Is it possible to stream music from JRiver to a Samsung Smart TV?
Post by: cowilliams on July 18, 2018, 01:58:07 pm
My TVs are showing up in JRiver as available players, but I've not found out how to get the music to actually play on the TV.  It was pretty simple to have it stream to my Onkyo receiver, but not sure what to do for the TV to play the music straight from JRiver.

I'm using Windows 10 Pro Build 1803 and JRiver 24.0.41

Thank you!

Most smartTV are DLNA rendereres. As MC is DLNA compliant, you can tell MC to render to smartTV (from MC ... or from JRemote, which is more nice) ... rendering both music and videos is possible

If you enable DLNA server on MC, you can also browse your library from TV (interface ugliness will depend on TV implementation of DLNA)

I prefer to slap cheap HTPC ... put MC onto it ... link it to main library ... connect it to TV ... then use Theatre View to browse my library from HTPC

Alternatively ... I use JRemote to select what I want to play and render it to TV

I have LG E6 and C6 ... both have ugly DLNA browsing ... so never used that

Generally speaking yes.

You need a smart app on your Samsung TV providing DLNA/UPNP capabilities.
You can search in the Media Network forum after "Whitebear DMR Analyzer". It's great work!. With that Tool you could check the DLNA capabilities of you Samsung TV. The Tool also tells you how you have to configure your DLNA settings in MC. E.g. my LG TV can only process 16 bit audio through DLNA.

Do you want to play your music through TV speakers?

If you have a separate DAC you typically connect it from your TV via optical cable.

I can stream music to my Samsung TV via both JRemote, MO 4Media and Panel. Just change the zone to the smart TV within the app you're using and start playing a song. The smart TV *should* automatically pick it up and start playing it.

Thank you all for your responses.

Manfred, to answer your question, yes, I'd like to play the music through my TV speakers.  Here's my desire, I play most everything through my Onkyo receiver via my network.  There are times I'd like to play the exact same playlist to my Samsung TV in the garage, which is also on the same network.  I first tried groupiong the Onkyo and the TV, but could not figure out waht mode to place the TV in for it to work.  That's what got me to looking and eventually asking this question to the forum.
