Title: How can I re-encode mp3's using DSP plugin?

I want to use the DSP plugin DFX to rencode my mp3's with normilzation.   How can I do this with MC9?

1) Don't re-encode. Start fresh.

2) You can use diskwriter to create wav that can in turn be encoded to mp3.

Question: Why do you want to do this? For portable?

Yes this is for a portable.  And all of my mp3's are from emusic, so I can't reburn them since I didn't burn them in the first place.   I wouldn't want to have to decode the mp3's into wav's and then re-encode them.  I would like to just be able to select all the mp3's and do them all at once.

S.O.L. with DFX.

MP3Gain can 'normalize' volume levels. But it will alter the files when doing so. There is a thread that is recent where you can find out what the different is between the settings.

I don't understand what you are saying.  I understand MP3gain modifies the file, but that is what I want to do.  I don't want to have DFX just alter file as it is transfered, but actually modify the file.

I looked at the DFX site more closely and it explains how to do this with musicmatch, so does MC have something like that, and if not then it should.  For MM their is a setting when selecting convert file, or burn to cd called "Apply active signal enahncement" which runs the file through dsp effects as part of the conversion.  Is this doable?

See statement above. Yes MC can output files like this using diskwriter. Thay will be in wav form. I'm sure MM does something similar, but have not used it.

Ok so what you are saying is there is no way in Media Center to use the convert file function to in one step re-encode a file using the DSP feature?
