I'm sure there is an easy way to do this, but I can't figure it out. When you have albums released by an artist in the same year they are listed alphabetically. For example BeBop Deluxe released Sunburst Finish and Modern Music in 1976. But because 'M' comes before 'S' they are displayed the wrong way around. How can I get them to swap?

Sort them by Artist>Year>Album.

I have the same problem.
It's there a way to add the month of release on the sidecar, to affect the sorting?
Thanks!

You can use date instead of year, then you can add a month.

I just add 2018a 2018b in windows and the tag...boom it's done

I've used MusicBrainz Picard to tag all my audio for years, and that includes the tags "release date" and "original date". "Original date" would be the first ever release of an album, in any format, in year-month-day format, such as "1963-03-22". And "release date" is the date of that particular release, which would be the same as original date if it's the original release.
You can do as I have, and add those tags to Media Center and use them for sorting. I like mine sorted oldest to newest. If the day or month of a release are not known, those values are omitted from the tag, and Media Center sorts them first, as if the missing value is "1".

As previously mentioned using the Date field (which can accept m/d/y) instead of just year is the cleanest way.
I also create a new field, Acquired Date, which is the date I bought the album, so I can have a listing of more recent acquisitions that is unaffected by import date.
