Title: Is it possible to mute tracks in an album? This might be a feature request
Post by: robland on September 30, 2018, 11:29:08 pm
We all have fave albums with that pesky one or two tracks we can't stand and always skip over.

I kinda expected to be able to right-click a track and select Mute, which would hide the track from play until unmuted.

Sure I can create a playlist, I suppose, but muting a track(s) would be easier, no?

Is there a simple way to do this?

I see a tag for Playable, by default set to 1. Would setting this to 0 maybe make the track unplayable? meaning playback would simply skip that track?

Related question, are all the tags documented somewhere? I searched the wiki for a simple list of tags and definitions but didn't find one.

Yes.

No, not really. Search using the Custom Google Search tool: https://www.jriver.com/support.html
The Release Note Wiki is handy as well: https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Release_Notes

As an aside, prior to the Playable tag being available, you could set Playback Range to some very small range which would basically skip the track. You can also use that if there is a portion of a track you do not want to hear.  Obviously, Playable is the better way to skip the entire track, but Playback Range is also sometimes useful, for example to eliminate an introduction or applause.

The playable tag is good.  I actually didn't know about that one.

I create views that exclude tracks I've rated as 1-star, and since they're excluded in the view they won't show in the list in that view and neither will they play if you do your playing from that view.  It's easy to modify your existing views to just exclude 1-star songs.

So all my regular views exclude 1-star songs so I never have to hear them or even look at them.  I have a separate view that includes all files in case I need to edit anything.

This solution works well for me.

Didn't think the playable tag was user editable - isn't it used by the program to denote items which are in someway damaged?

Playable is user editable.  It is a simple check box. It is meant for this specific task.

Well we live and learn - even if a bit slowly these days. ?
