Title: Video playback stops 10 minutes in
Post by: BryanC on October 12, 2018, 02:37:15 pm
Sometimes (usually the first show or movie each night, but not subsequent videos) video playback will stop at exactly 10 minutes in and go back to theater view. This has been happening for about a month now, I figured it was related to the new madVR, but found a similar thread about this happening in MC23:  https://yabb.jriver.com/interact/index.php/topic,115029.msg795315.html#msg795315

+1,
I normally play via DLNA, it will drop back to the video selection menu.
To continue, I just start the title all over again, then it will take off from the point where it stopped.
This has been going on over 6 months.

I've had that happen once or twice some time ago, I figured it was some rogue DLNA stop command. I've turned off DLNA remote controlling and it never happened again.

I'll look over your log and see if something like that shows up.

It wasn't DLNA, but I think I figured out whats going on.

Your remote control is sending the "Enter" key twice in a rapid succession. The first key is being used to start playing the file, and the second would theoretically mean "pause", except playback isn't up and running yet, so its not actually pausing.
However, what the failing pause command does is trigger the 10 minute timer to stop playback after a long pause (even if it didn't actually successfully pause, see the problem? :D)

I'll fix the logic to avoid this, and add logging so we can diagnose future failures from this easier. In the meantime, you can turn off that feature in Settings -> Video -> Advanced, Stop after long pause.

Maybe we should always ignore the second Enter if it comes within a quarter second.  Some people are used to double clicking to open.

Thanks! I got a new remote and noticed that its IR blasts work strangely in conjunction with my FLIRC. I suspected it was sending multiple blasts because sometimes hitting pause or play just causes the playback to glitch. I know I can modify the repeat logic in the FLIRC software, maybe I will try playing around with that also.

FYI - Also sounds like the old "Debounce" handling is needed on MCE remotes but I did not think you needed to turn it off in the register anymore (well I have not had to for many years) - https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Supported_Remote_Control_Devices

Greetings:
This issue has plagued me for a long time.
I normally watch movies via my smart Sony tvs.
Suddenly, movie quits, drops to the movie selection menu.
I have to start the movie, but the movie just continues from where it stopped.
With your settings suggestion, "stop after long pause" temp fix, my setting is not checked.
I did not have this issue when I was on MC 22. (Windows/ Amd64.
It may have started at the later part of MC 23 life cycle.
It is also present on Ubuntu 64 bit version 23 XXX , 24.XXX.

When I first read this thread, I was completely befuddled as to what might be causing it...

Way to diagnose, Hendrik.  Nice catch!
