I just updated Media Center 9 to 9.0.174. Now whenever trying to search the YADB database, it always comes back "Failed to connect with YADB." I know I am connected to the internet because everything else works. Suggestions?
-
Probably a temporary problem. Try again in an hour or two :)
-
It's been almost 2 weeks, and it still doesn't work. Any other ideas? Thanks.

right click on the cd in the tree, and use update from yadb.
if you put the cd in once and you were not connected or the cd was not found you must force YADB to look it up.
-
Upgrade to the latest version. There was a bug around that time that killed YADB access.

I think you may still need to force MC9 to look it up.
-
Upgrading to 175 didn't help. I'm recording from an LP. In the Recorder, I click Tracks, then click Internet Lookup. With older versions, it just connected to YADB and found the tracks. Now it always fails to connect. What does it mean to force it to lookup?
If I put in a CD, and right-click to Update from CD Database, it brings up a windows a 1/2 second that says connecting..., and then the tracks appear.
It just doesn't work through the recorder.

BTW 9.0.177 is current

Sorry, it's 0178

What search strings are you using? Try more explicit ones. I'm working on this problem, but it's not an easy fix.

When it checks for updates, 9.0.175 is the latest it finds. Also, I could not find a later version on the website.
I've tried a variety of search strings, but why does that even matter, if it's not connecting anyway?
Thanks.

It's probably connecting, waiting 30 seconds or so, and then coming back with the error message, right? It does connect, but the search for titles takes too long. and MC decides it didn't connect before the results come back. I thought I had this fixed with a hardware upgrade, but the upgrade barfed and I had to go back to older hardware that's a little slower. Until I can get a better solution, try using exact matches.

> try using exact matches
so where do you find this?
-
This sounds about right. Using Exact Match doesn't help. I'll just do w/o it for awhile, if it's nothing on my system that's causing the problem.

Ahhh, yes. . . it was refreshing ripping in a program that used CDDB once again. Brought back fond memories.
But alas, YADB will, ummm . . . suffice
I guess
sometimes . . . sorta
But hey, look at the bright side, ya get a lot of great typing practice.
Listening to: Lydia Lunch - Serpentine, from 'Don't Fear The Reaper' with Clint Ruin (as Tagged by CDDB) :P
on . . . why MC9 of course
