I have recently installed MC 24 on my desk top with no problems.
I also run MC on a media PC in my lounge.
I have recently reverted back to Windows 7 on the media PC because I kept getting problems with windows 10 update. MC 24 installed perfectly and has no problem playing audio however when I try to play video I get the message " failed to download and install lav splitter filter....".
I searched on the forum and copied the lav folder from my desk top to the media pc, which had an empty lav folder. It didn't work.On the desktop the folder is lav 64 but on the media PC it is just lav.
I then downloaded the installer from the net and copied the files from there. Didn't work!
I then read that J River has to install the file. I went to tools/options/general install plug in from file. MC is looking for a dll file. Which one do I use? When I unzip the lav download there are several dll files.
I am confused, can anyone tell me what to load specifically? Help.

MC should just install the correct package by itself once you try playing for the first time. Make sure you are connected to the internet at that point.
Manually installing the right package is not really something we support, since MC keeps track of the right version, since it may otherwise crash.
-
The PC is connected to the internet. I have checked the firewall and MC is allowed free access.
I have tried to open several different videos and the same message keeps coming up! "failed to download and install etc."
-
Can you make a Log of that happening?
https://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/Logging
To keep the log concise:
1) Enable Logging option
2) Restart MC
3) Try playing a single Video
4) Click the "Report Problem" button in the logging dialog, and turn logging off again

Attached is the log produced for my attempt to open a video file.
I have checked the firewall again and I can access the internet from MC. I went to imdb and updated information about videos. However when I tried to look for updates I got the message "Problem checking for updates." I don't know if that has any impact.

Access to all our secure URLs seems to fail. For example, this is where it tries to download LAV from:
https://files.jriver.com/dependencies/plugins/lav/lav_v62.zip
For some reason these types of URLs all seem to fail. Can you check if you can access this manually, preferable in Internet Explorer? That should use the same Windows functions that we use to open URLs.

I set internet explorer as the default browser and tried to load a video and got the same message as before.
I then tried to access the files manually as you suggested and got this message:
"windows explorer received an HTTP message error message 403 (FORBIDDEN) from files.jriver.com

I just loaded up my Windows 7 VM and Internet Explorer and the link works fine there. Very odd indeed.
-
The link works for me too, in IE or Google Chrome. Window 7.
-
Just tried to get to the site with Chrome. Same error message!!!
-
Sounds like an antivirus or firewall issue to me - but I am frequently wrong :(
-
Firewall, Antivirus or for some reason something with your network/Internet seems most likely. The link has to work, otherwise MC also cannot access it.
-
I tried switching off the firewall and anti-virus, no change.
Tried again to day and everything worked, nothing I did though.
However windows did an update last night and I can only assume that something in a previous update was corrected this time!!
Thanks for all your suggestions, I just hope windows doesn't screw-up again!

Just be grateful that you didn't get the windows 10 1809 update ;D
